Damage from overreving engine?

I was driving about 70MPH on the way home this morning when I went to downshift from 6th to 4th to pass someone on the freeway. Unfortunatly I put it into 2nd instead of 4th. RPM shot up into the red area, but not by much. I caught myself and let go of the gas immediatly. Everything seems to be OK, but what are some things I should look for??

These engines rarely have problems after doing that. If your transmission doesn't make a whining noise now, consider yourself lucky.

Different engine, different transmission, different clutch.

there is a rev limiter for a reason...to protect the engine

Rev limiter doesn't protect the engine from downshifting and overreving. All it does is cut the ignition to keep you from accelerating through the redline if you don't shift.

Either way I wouldn't worry about it if everything seems fine now. There's not much you can do anyway unless you notice a problem.

I've revved my motor up to ~7100rpms before, no nothing. Bulletproof VQ FTW. :knock on wood:
