Axles

Ok, I've posted this before and I was only given the price of the Raxles. My car currently needs an entirely new front axle. I know Raxles are raved about but Money is tight and I would really love to spring for the more expensive stuff but a lot of stuff is coming up that I also need $$$ for. How much do stock axles cost for a 2001 SE Maxima? Come in the future I will do the Raxles and hopefully the sub frame connectors altogether so I can actually feel like the car is together. Thanks.

It depends on if it's the driver's or passenger side axle you're wanting. The driver's side one is around $60-70 at O'reilly with a lifetime warranty.

It's both actually because when I turn the wheel either way, I hear a clicking noise in both directions as well as a snapping/clacking noise when I go over a sliht raise or speed bump in the road. I baby the car when I drive it and look to avoid as many potholes as possible on the wonderful Brooklyn streets, lol. I most likely bought the car with a worn away axle and it just so happened to crap out as I became the new owner. It has 54K miles on it and Im the second owner and I wouldnt of thought of this going wrong.

Well why don't you check the axles yourself and see if either of them has a torn boot. If one does, replace that one first and see if the noise stops. If you're turning the wheels, both CV joints move regardless of the direction, so it could be only one of them that's causing your problem.

If the boots aren't torn, check to see if grease is coming out of the ends of it too. My boot wasn't torn but my axle was still bad.

The mechanic that worked on my struts (after I described the noise and was given proper info on the symptoms of a torn axle b4 I brought it to his attention so I wasnt getting B/S'd) said it was the axle. Further into it, a friend of mine who is a mechanic himself said it was the axle as well. Im just the type of person who can't be too sure about something with my car lol. I need 100% before I shell out the cash and have my car tapped into.

check those axles just to make sure. Like I said above, if one looks bad and the other doesn't, replace the one that looks bad and see if the noise is still there. If it is, then you'll have to replace the other one as well
