After my 15,000 mile service at the dealer, which included tire rotation, I again experienced a pull to the left. After another alignment at a local tire shop it was still there, so they switched the Toyo front tires to opposite sides, and the problem was gone. Being that the owner’s manual recommends same side rotation, have I done something wrong or unsafe?

 

if its a uni-directional tire it should stay on the same side only but if its a bi-directional tires then you can switch tires from left to right..but that's weired in your situation, maybe one of the meachanic did a mistake....

 

Thanks for the tip. How do I tell if it's a bi-directional tire? Is there some sort of code on the tire? These are the orginial equipment Toyo tires that came with the car.

bidirectional, never heard of that term... where have I been... but unidirectional tread has a pattern that seems to point in one direction and not the other. The "bidirectional" or I like to call it no direction are tires like the ones that came stock. which means you don't know which direction it should point, therefore it can go either way. The only way to rotate directional tires from side to side is to unmount and remount... I'm going to try to rotate front to back and to sides on mine this weekend and see if it feels funny. All I know is it'll get rid of the feathering of the tread after a while. Which should be a good thing.
