MAF Issues?????

Ok, my Max is giving me trouble again and I'm trying to pinpoint the problem. My Max stutters like crazy when cold, but just recently it has started this new issue where it doesn't want to start when warm. I replaced my MAF last year, but may be its on its way out again. Here's the deal. After the car is warmed up and I shut her off (like to pump gas, or run in a store) if I try to start the car back up it just keeps dying. The car turns over and starts up, but when the rpms drop they never level off, and it dies. The only way to keep the car started is to give the car gas, then everything is fine. My wife thinks I should just live with it, because the car isn't new, but you can forget about that. I've also tried unplugging the Maf and starting the car and it will run fine, so logic tells me that it has to be my MAF, but it just kills me casue it's not even a year old. Am I missing something, or just kidding my self????

Ok, the set up. I bought the car with a K & N filter and sense have done the GAB. I did recently clean my K & N, so know I'm thinking I should just throw it out. If that's the case will I run into the same problem if I get a berk style intake with an aftermarket filter???? I hate the idea of just having a stock airfilter and intake.

PS: For anyone that was responding to my other thread, I have decided not to pick up an IS300 or G35. I'm just going to start modding the MAX like crazy. (Although I have to wait a month or so, because I'm about to drop about 15gs on a 2nd house.)

I assume you are talking about the check engine light????? Or do I need to take a look at the ECU to check for SES lights. Sorry, never had to deal with that on my 5th gen, I use to check the ECU on my 3rd gen all the time.

Well, to answer your question (I guess) my check engine light came on today for the first time and that was after I unplugged the MAF and started the car a couple of times. One of the times I started the car with the MAF unplugged, it died and the check engine light came on and it hasn't gone off yet.

You don't have a check engine light, you have a Service Engine Soon light, hence SES.

Get the code cleared, and see if it arises again. This can be done by taking it to autozone.

Judging from his post, I'm 99% sure he has yet to even look inside an FSM, so, in order to help, I stated to him what is readily on his dashboard.

Yes it does drive funny sometimes. The car stumbles like crazy when cold. After warmed up the car will hesitate slightly under normal driving, but it comes and goes.

do you notice any change in the way the car drives when it is at certain RPM's because that is a direct indicator of a failing MAF (are u auto or man.)
