P1706 Park/Neutral Position switch... on a 5spd??
'Sup peoples! First a question. Do our 5.0 gen ECU's store more than 4 codes at once? About a year ago, my SES indicator came on. There were 4 codes for the infamous P0430/420 issue. I just said f*#k it until I got a y-pipe and o2 sim. About a month after that, my gearbox was changed cause it was leaking real bad. Fast forward 9 months later, I got the codes read and yes there were 4 codes related to 430/20. When I installed the sim and reset the ECU, 45 miles later the sob comes back on. This time with the P1706. I believe it was there when my gearbox was swapped out, which leads me to my initial question. Ok, sorry for all the wind, now the real issue. But isn't a PNP (park/neutral position) swith related to an automatic only? My bachup lights haven't worked since either.

It is located on the transmission.
Go to www.phatg20.net and download the FSM for your car, it will have pics and a description for all the sensors.

if you replace that switch - your reverse lights will start to work again - I was having the same issue. I accidentally broke that switch ( I have a 5spd too) and had to replace it. Reverse lights have been fixed since.
