Can I replace only one rotor?
Hi,
I put on a pair of new Brembo rotors on the front about 3 months ago. I've had a weird clunking sound that my mechanic has been able to isolate to the rotors. The sound was on the passenger side of the car. We switched the rotors. The sound is now on the driver side of the car, so I'm pretty sure it's the driver side rotor.
Can I just replace the driver side rotor or do they absolutely have to be done as a set?
Thanks.

Yes, you can do just one if you must. Under heavy braking and consistent braking (spirited driving, racing), you will notice the difference. If you bought the rotors for performance, I would keep both rotors brembo. If you bought it for looks, I would still keep both as brembo. If you need to put a substitute rotor on as a temporary solution, then mismatching them is not a huge problem. Naturally, get a matching brembo rotor or get two OEM ones when you can though.
The brembo is going to be more resistant to heat and will hold its integrity if you are driving the car hard. If this is your style, you should order another brembo ASAP. If you want to fix the problem quick, just get two shiny new rotors for consistency.
Whats cool about having one high end rotor anyway?
