Best Way to get HIDs

ok, i know some knowledge about HIDs and know how people love retro fitting projectors into headlights to get the full HID experience. I was just wondering what would be be best and cheapest way to get HIDs in my 2k maxima. Can i just get a like a McCullah kit or do i need to modify the housing? Do i need to just retro the 2002 housing into my 2k? Can i jsut get ebay headlights with projectors and just put the hid bulbs into the projectors?

Easiest and cheapest way is get a Bi-Xenon kit from the GD forum...

You will keep low and highbeam function and have a kit that is plug and play with zero mods to the housing.

i know people talk about how there is too much glare and you dont get more light, would that be true if i got that kit? from what i have read, it may be better to get a shield type thing to go over the bulbs. is this something i should get it i got the bi xenon kit for 300?

The good kits come with a glare shield and everyone I have heard from on here that actually has the kits... Love them.

I don't personally have it, it is just the easiest way for you to get HIDs. Everyone that talks crap about the kits... Never owned one.

IF you want the best output, cutoff and no glare... Then I would pony up the money for someone to retro-fit your stock housings (I think it is usually around $500-$600).

In general... I don't trust anything from ebay unless it is a major brand in retail pack...

Org sellers also tend to have better support.

Well....I got a 2000 max and I have the stock headlight housing. I just bought a H4 Techone Bixenon plug and play kit and I love it. The bulbs came with a shield. Don't get me wrong there are some glare but its not that bad. I've had them for a few months now and i haven't been flashed once. I got the 6000k kit and it lights up the road really well.

that is the exact kit i want to get. do you have to remove the stock reflector or anything with that kit? or does the shield just fit right behind the reflector?

It just fits right behind the reflector. All i did was remove the H4 stock bulbs and place the HIDs right in its place. Everything is plug and play. The hardest thing about the kit is finding a place to fit and hold down the ballast.

I don't have any clear pics that shows where I have the ballast. The ballast comes with mounting brackets. I mounted one right in front of the battery using the same screw that is holding down the battery. The other ballast is mounted to a screw (not the one holding the headlight) right at the corner close to where the passenger side headlight is mounted.

You WILL blind people with those kits. It DOES NOT matter which kit you use or whether it has a "glare shield" or not. I have personally used them so I know.

It is not the bulb you put in that determines where the light goes. It is the reflector inside the housing. And sadly, the 2000-2001 H4 reflector is total crap. But it is still only designed for the amount of light the H4 provides. You stick a xenon capsule in there, and it throws too much light out.

Actually the 00-01 reflector is very good... The 02-03 reflector is total crap.

How did you aim them? What K rating did you use? Are you sure yours had a glare shield?

Several others have used plug and play kits with zero problems.

They both are, but 00-01 is worse. If you want to see a good reflector, check out an 03-04 Honda Pilot. It uses an H4 bulb, and puts down more light on the road than the 02 Maxima xenons.

Parked 25 ft from a wall, and measured. The hot spot with the hid kit was too big, and the beam path was all over. K rating doesnt matter, that's the color not the brightness. Yes I am sure it had a glare shield. It was a metal plate that was mounted to the base under the capsule. The arc was the same exact distance that the filament would have been on an H4 bulb.

None of it matters.

It is very easy to turn a blind eye and pretend you are not causing problems to other motorists, and rationalize spending $300 on something you shouldn't have.
