Aftermarket Hoods?

Hey all;

I haven't seen many, if any, aftermarket hood options for our cars. I think the only option is an OEM-style CF hood, and while that's pretty sweet, i would like one with slots or Louvers to aid in the extraction of heat. I don't need some hood scoops or anything simular, but whenever there's talk about Intakes and heatsoak, I come to wonder if there's a vented hood option? maybe something like an 03 SVT Cobra, or those longitudinal slats on the 93-94 Lumina coupes i think would look great and serve a definate purpose. post links/pics if you know about something like that!

There is a fiberglass version of that hood too, not like it really matters though.

is that really it? I don't like it the idea of having a bulge just to have a recessed slot in there. I think something like this:

note the slats in the hood? I think that would look great on our hood.

I'd wager not, but isnt heat the enemy of engine components? so what if i want it cooler under my hood? I just think that it would help output at least in some fashion, especially getting an intake kit of some sort. and having a more unique look isn't bad

Your intake is not going to make your engine run cooler. I think you would have better luck w/ fabricating a better cooling system, a thick radiator and fans put out more cfm's. That or get a body kit w/ a big front opening to keep cool air flowing over the radiator.

DEAR SANTA,

I would like a hood with a naca duct on the intake side and vented louvres flush mounted to the hood. I need it Santa because of excess heat made by the turbo. Also Ive been a very good boy this year.

whoa there. I think you all might have something of a misconception. I'm not insinuating my car overheats, or that a hood will replace a true CAI or Intercooler. What I'm getting at is another method of helping reduce heat soak in the engine bay, and POTENTIALLY assist in a cooler charge in a simple WAI or Pop intake. I have Aaron's IM spacers on my wish list, but every little bit helps, doesn't it? Perhaps if not significantly, at the very least be stylistically special when compared to the OEM or CF hoods.

I have the CF VIS invader hood, and it works awesome. When you stop the car aftermaking a pass down the track, around the track (in my case PIR), or even on a long road trip. You can touch the hood and its not even warn but the air comming out of the scoop is crazy hot. I noticed it takes a little longer in the mornings to warm up just judging by distance and cools down faster after stopping. This is really good for drag racing because a cooler motor makes more hp, on the dyno my car made 4 more hp and 7 more ft/lbs of torque cold. Im not saying the hood adds 4hp and 7ft/lbs letting it sit longer in between pulls did that. It dose however help your car cool down faster and run cooler for longer periods of time and that = hp . On top of that the CF hood is way lighter then stock. So if you are looking to cool your car a little better and shave some weight then this hood is for you (it also looks bad azz LOL).

Conforming and buying what other people think is cool and not what you like = RICE

i agree with what you are saying but....
buying something simply for looks = RICE

not saying your hood is for looks. it comes down to intention...why you bought it.
