New How-to's on shift_ice (housecor's how-to's)...

Hi there Guys - I finally crawled out from under that rock I've been hiding under and got around to posting a few new how-to's! Please give them a look and let me know if you have any corrections or recommendations. I've been busy working on a complete update to the site for the last year or so, adding a lot of new content and functionality. But it's still not quite done, so none of the new design & functionality is up yet. Apparently I need to spend less time detailing and more time developing!

Anyway, as usual, feedback welcomed.

Housecor, You mentioned in the bleeding procedure
Most recommend starting at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (which sits in the engine compartment just in front of the driver). So, I recommend the following order:

1. Passenger rear
2. Driver rear
3. Passenger front
4. Driver front
What does
So, I recommend the following order:
mean? Theres only one correct way. If i'm correct, the Haynes manual states that it should be done in another order.

I don't mean to flame, just need clarification.
Thanks

That is the WRONG bleeding order.

Bleeding Brake System
NFBR0009
CAUTION:
- Carefully monitor brake fluid level at master cylinder during
bleeding operation.
- Fill reservoir with new brake fluid “DOT 3”. Make sure it is
full at all times while bleeding air out of system.
- Place a container under master cylinder to avoid spillage
of brake fluid.
- For models with ABS, turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect
ABS actuator connectors or battery ground cable.
- Bleed air in the following order.
Right rear brake , Left front brake , Left rear brake , Right
front brake
1. Connect a transparent vinyl tube to air bleeder valve.
2. Fully depress brake pedal several times.
3. With brake pedal depressed, open air bleeder valve to release
air.
4. Close air bleeder valve.
5. Release brake pedal slowly.
6. Repeat steps 2. through 5. until clear brake fluid comes out of
air bleeder valve.

From which source did you get that bleeding order?

I could swear Haynes said differently, but I'll trust the FSM over it. Making the change now. Thanks for pointing this out!

EDIT> Changes up!

No prob, I used to think the order was what you posted too. But then one day I was reading FSM and saw the Nissan way.

Just in time before I change my front pads.

Now I know i've been doing it wrong. I used to bleed the brakes in the following order: LR, RR, RF, LF.

Great how-to's. Thanx again. The foglamp rewire how-to was my first mod. But if I may, how about a how-to for bleeding the clutch. I know the process is essentially the same as the brakes and clutch fluid is, well, brake fluid.

I just bled my clutch, all you have to do is locate the slave cylinder ( toward the front of car almost on top of tranny, two bolts hold on and it has a bleeder screw on top.) Fill the clutch fluid reservoir. Have someone sit inside and pump the clutch pedal. Pump like 10 times and then have them hold it. While they hold it to floor, you loosen the bleed screw just a crack for a second. Then close and have them pump again. Do this as much as needed until there is 100% fluid coming out. In between pumping make sure you keep an eye on the clutch fluid level.

Ps. It is normal that after you crack the bleeder while partner is holding the clutch to floor that when they go to pump again they will need to pull the clutch up from floor the first couple times.

Nope, I have the Haynes and it has the same order Kev posted (same as the FSM). The order you posted is generally correct for cars if you "don't know," but I think the maxima order probably has something to do with equalizing the ABS or the brake balance

I always thought it was a wierd order, but it's always worked for me.

His site should be in everyone's favorites (I'm sure they're in the .org stickies....but who reads those?).

Although i haven't done it yet, I think we should also help him out, considering how much he's helped us-

Then again, it's hard enough to get these cheap-*** bastids to donate to the .org.
