Custom NUVI 350 "Mount" and Bluetooth installation

Not so new since I've had both for a while, but finally decided to make it look a bit cleaner.

First of all, for those who have NUVI's the windshield mount absolutely stinks. Unless you mount it once and never remove it, it's junk. The vent mounts look ugly imo so I stumbled upon something really cool. If you attach the NUVI just to the plastic mount, you can wedge it into the ashtray hole. I bought a $10 external antenna off ebay and ran that and the power through the ashtray and it looks pretty good, fits like a glove and doesn't move at all. Just make sure you have the plastic piece attached to the NUVI (and plug the power into the back of the plastic piece - NOT the actual NUVI). Allthough the pics look like its just loose it seriously fits and doesn't budge the slightest bit- I'm surprised myself how perfect the fit is. Only downside is that it's so low.

Also did a clean(er) install of the Parrot CK-3100 Bluetooth kit (using it with my TREO 700w). Bought a Nissan-ISO adapter cable from justcarkits.co.uk (Place in England, but I got the item in 4 days flat - Called the guy and he was super super helpful and knowledgable). So the sound comes through both front speakers very loud. When a call comes in it mutes my P8MP hu.

Very nice job man. I have the Sony NVU70 and it fits perfectly too. I always wanted to install it there but never got around to actually doing it.

Are you able to close the ashtray? I was planning on removing the whole ashtray and just poping the navi right in so its flat with the dash. How hard was the install?

No the ashtray wont close with it inside. Your idea of making it flush with the dash would probably be more time consuming since you would have to hold it from the backside - My way it magically just stays still. However it would definitely look alot better....Also I take my unit out pretty often when I go overseas (I have all the European maps) so this way it's a bit more portable.

As far as time, I'd say 40 min, and thats with installing the antenna on top, taking apart the dash and running back inside a few time for some cold beer

Nerfan: ...and I thought I could claim the patent on the idea In any case leather and 6-speed...wanna trade?
