wiring lights for trailer?

A reciever stlye hitch can be really handy. And when you're not using the hitch which is likely often you don't have to drive a truck.
I've done this on several cars, though not my Max. Anyway it is just a matter of tapping into the wiring at the rear. I assume you have a trailer wire kit that includes a converter. The tail light converter is necessary to combine the turn signal and brake lights which are separate bulbs on your car to a single bulb with two filaments on the trailer. In your trunk I would pull the trim from the back and possibly from the left side (drivers) to get access to the wires to the rear lights. I like to use Scotchlok style connectors (available at Wal Mart or similar ones at any auto parts store) because you don't have to cut and splice wires. If you are not familar with these there is a description and picture here. I looked at the Electrical section of the repair manual and put together the following wire map:
Function -> Trailer plug wire -> Nissan rear light wire (Main Color / Stripe)
RH Turn -> Green -> Green / Yellow
LH Turn -> Yellow -> Green / Black
Brake -> Red -> Red / Black
Lights -> Brown -> Red / White
Ground -> White -> Black
Good luck

I will try this soon.
BTW, for all those who don't think a Max can tow a trailer, you're wrong.
There is no reason why this car can't handle a light trailer, I used to tow a caravan, in the UK, with a much smaller vehicle. I have pulled another car with my 95 Max, easily, with the original clutch at 200k miles.
Just learn how to drive.

Ive never had any problems towing with my Max. I pulled my 96 with my 99. Pulled a trailer around for work with a 700lb rooftop AC unit on the back and still pulled on Civics. And just recently pulled a 5x8 tailer with my 97 I30t to move last weekend. No problems at all.
