why not just get a cattman intake instead of doing this?
im guessing people wanna be unique and clever... this is a very clever thing to do.. but, once again... why not just get a cattman ?

I had one that sat in the garage.
I gave him the filter he is using now since I never went to e36 maf. What is this thermostat you speak of?

In the write up it was for the people that had the Injen intake. If you are fortunate enough to already have the Cattman then good on you. However to run a CAI with your Injen then you are going to have to do this. Or run it under your fusebox like some have done. Maybe people should read before posting and you would have seen this.

If you drive in deep water at WOT, you deserve to flood your engine. Dont drive like an idiot, and you wont have issues.

There is a special thermal insulation you can buy, but it wont do much for heat soaking unless you have the headers coated as well.

First off, thanks for the excellent writeup here. It inspired me to buy a CAI and perform this mod. I did the battery relocation this afternoon so there would be one less thing I had to do when the CAI arrives. I was not able to follow your directions completely, maybe this is because you have a 2003 and I have a 2000. Anyway, when I tried to use the same battery tray holes as you show in the pictures the battery would press into the radiator hose so my try is at an offset a little offset, no biggie i guess. Perhaps once my intake comes I can get things straightened out. Everything looks nice and perpendicular in your photos. Good work.

i just dont see proof. there are plenty of people here that make more than 248...the point: there was absolutely NO reason to post anything about having more or less power than others here, especially without data which he so highly regards

i never whined. just said no data no care. if he wants to make rude comments to .org member make them in pm's, we dont need them here. and just because you have an auto with less hp than others with 6spds doesnt mean he has more power, just that he has an excuse to have less

Would you like some cheese sir? For your whine? One more post like this, and you can have 2 weeks to think about it. Try it again to see if I am joking.

It's crazy how fast a thread can get off topic.

RMH: I didn't assume that the tray would be that much different. However, if it is then all you would have to do is predrill the holes in the tray to line up with your existing holes. Just make sure that you put it in place to avoid hitting the radiator hose and not too far forward to hit the intake piping. Shoot me a pm with your pics and I'll see if I can help you out. If you need it.

Yeah the people that bring threads off topic are often the same people to cry about reposts... its funny.

Anyway here are some shots of my initial attempt at this battery relocation on a 2000.

You can clearly see how my battery is offset a little bit and that there is no extra room between the radiator hose and the bottom of the battery. Im gonna have to wait till I get my intake before i play with it any more, once I have it in hand I will have a better idea how things will fit over there.

I think once you move the stock intake out of the way you'll have to room to push it forward a bit. With that being said you should be able to just drill the holes on the tray to line up with the existing holes on the mount.

By the way... line the pics on top of each other instead of side by side.

Im definitely doing this mod once i get time. But if i wanted to use the K&N air filter instead of the apexi... you think it wouldnt be no problem... i mean i have no idea how much room you had left to spare using the filter you used

There is tons of room inside the fender. I think it's just a matter of measuring the amount of space you'll need to use the K&N. Turn your wheel to the right and pull the splash guard back. You'll see the amount of room you'll have to play with.

Good luck.
