I have a CAI and have never had any problems. I do not drive thru mud puddles... like to splash someone. That will cause problems. I only know of one person that drove thru a deep mud puddle fast and ended hyro locking his motor and basicly blowing it up.

Ok so it looks like I will attempt this mod. After researching (Now donating ). I realized a lot of my mods I'm doing is going to take away from the my low end. If this CAI setup can restore a couple HP down low it maybe in fact worth it for me. Look forward to see pics of how the 5.0 setup worked out.
BTW, is the Injen 3"?

The injen is 3", as far as the 5th gen I think it's the same way with the exception of the midpipe. You will need a midpipe that will accomodate the vaccum lines etc...
In his pic he still has his stock air box in and I think that is what's preventing him from putting the battery straight.

asuming you have cattman headers and the the cattman cat back exhaust... already running a injen Wai... did this conversion so now they have a magical injen cai. also a SACF.... how much base hp would be seen and about how much whp could be seen?...
dynos would be great 2!!

The real item here would be IAT's. 84% of the org wants to know these numbers, But 98% of those 84% do not have the capability to log such parameters. 38% have access to a TC/logging software etc, but only 12% actually have both the desire and equipment.
And you're right, as E55AMG2 has pointed out, CAI gains aren't really noticed on DJ dynos. The come into play only when it really counts (traffic/hot day). Cruising (35-75+) speeds my car sees ~ +5-10ºF above ambient. I get a light and it goes up to ~ 30-45º above ambient. I have a stock airbox, so no it's not a true CAI, nor do i have access to one.
I do a lot(80%) of highway driving so I really don't see that much of a need for such a device. That and I cannot stand the noise.
If you're worried that much about losing low end power, why not swap your car to a 5MT? It would cost roughly the same amount as cams and such, but would eliminate that auto lag that horribly plagues the Power rodlessVQ30DEK/4AT/A33 combo.
If you're like me and you do the majority of your driving on the highway, why not, but it seems as if lately you've been worried bout said low end losses. so I suspect, that you may in fact do your share of city driving.
Also, for arguments sake, and not that it matters at this point nor in this thread at the moment, but the Injen is not true 3" ID, 3" OD IIRC.
***EDIT
In your situation, it will be give or take since you do not have CVTC. So your option are limited. At this point, you have 2 options for noticeable gains, get CVTC( not an easy task), or larger cylinders(not a cheap task) .
Of course there's always lighter wheels/brakes/weight reduction/higher stall
You can try the ub3r MAF mod since I stand by it re: gains in the low end/part throttle if done correctly, but my car is different than yours so, I suppose take that with a grain of salt.

5-Speed swap will hopefully be done this winter, hard to say with wedding plans coming up as well. But even with the 5-speed, I'm trying to keep some low end regardless.

Just so you guys know, IF, you decide to do this mod but don't have the injen intake it can be done with the 95-99 "CAI." I got this elbow from a 97 and actually it has a better bend to it then the Injen.
You can get it here on flea bay for next to nothing. The only thing is that the midpipe is made for that year. Either plug the extra holes on the midpipe or source another one made for our year. ( 02/03 )
Another option, go to Pepboys and get the straight piece of piping, drill a hole out and place your vaccum line in. Make sure to seal it up.
Note: This midpipe will work for the ( 00/01 ) However, not sure about the length on the midpipe, since it will have to extend long enough, with the maf, to let the elbow reach the hole.

Just some pics of the 4th gen piping. It has a curve on the piping so it's a better fit with it. Definitely recommend it if you don't already have an elbow. Only need the larger piping

I'm just using my stock accordian and resonator, I'm sure to find the elbow locally.

Like to do this mod but it will be when I get into doing mods in the bay. No dynoes were ever produced from anyone dynoing (anything) from what they had to this. Alot of members or a few anyway said that stock airbox gave more power..
Nice write up from 2 years ago though and like I said eventually would like to do this..

If you look at the original posts, you'll see the OP's images are hosted at http://memimage.cardomain.net. I think "memimage" is a subdomain on a separate server for images, because cardomain.net is up.
My point being: try again later, Sparks, and the images might show up.

He did originally... now they aren't working. The reason it becomes much less useful without them is because almost all of his steps are describing things that are circled or shown in the pictures. But go ahead with your facetious remarks
