I took my 2k Max into Pepboys today to get the front brakes done (with new rotors too), tire rotation, oil change, and an alignment check. They just called me with a list of things they "recommend" including Coolant and Brake Fluid flushes, that my Alt and Power Steering belts were cracking, and the big issue they say is the boot is torn on one of the sides of my front axle and the whole thing needs to be replaced and they dont recommend doing the alignment if the axles gotta be swapped. Now I have an extended warranty but knowing my luck this axle will not be covered by them, but I plan to read my paperwork and give them a call, though im sure it will either be not covered or considered wear and tear. Anyways, heres my questions:


1) If just the boot is torn, cant you just replace the boot? I know ive seen boot repair kits before, but this is all new on me. I would think if thats the only issue that should be fixable without replacing the whole axle.

2) If the axle is in fact in need of replacement, wheres a good place to get a new one and how hard of a job is it to do? I do have family members that are good with working on cars and im sure I can get some help, but need to be pointed in the right direction on how difficult a task and wheres the best place to get an axle.

3) Lastly, with the belts, how difficult will they be to replace? Best off having a shop do it or easy enough to get to both that they arent much of a hassle?

Im not very good at working on cars but im always willing to give it a go with some help. You guys have come through for me in the past, and im hoping to get some good info this time.
