Why the F@#$ does it say 255 hp. Shouldn't it have 260, this is small but then again why would they have their hp lower then the s models from acura. They (nissan) said it was rated at 260 hp. WTF !!

Question y2kse? I see they said the 2K2 will be in showrooms around Aug 2, wanna take a guess on how much below invoice the 2K1 will go for?

This is only a guess, of course, but once the 2002 Altima hits the showroom floors, I'd expect the 2001 Maxima to drop at least a THOUSAND DOLLARS below invoice. And when the 2002 Maxima arrives, the bloodbath will really begin. Before the dust settles, I wouldn't be surprised to see fully loaded, brand new 2001 Maximas going out the door for less than $20K.

Let's face it, Nissan royally screwed 2001 Maxima owners. I mean, when was the last time you saw a car company release a new mid-range model with a larger body, better specs and a lower cost than their previous year's flagship model? If Nissan gave a damn about their customers, they would have waited at least one model year before making such a drastic change in the Altima. But they don't care and they proved it.

Not a bad thought, [maxi-overdose]. Not a bad thought at all.

Maybe, I can get another Max or two, or three. Hmmm, gonna be cheap right? That way if I break one, then I'll always have spares.

This could be interesting, we have a dealership close to NY in New Jersey with (63) 2001 Maximas in their inventory..... Might have to stop by and see if any AE are around and forget about the 2K2?

Yup. The 2001 Maxima could easily turn out to be the bargain of the century . . . except for those who bought theirs before Nissan sabotaged them!

I was thinking the same thing. I don't race my car, so the extra HP only means extra gas, and with the highest gas prices in the country, I'll think I'll pass on the 2K2. Also, I kinda like the stylings of the 2K and 2K1 better. The front of the 02 doesn't do it for me. Just my 2 pennies.

I'm not as bewildered at Nissan's decision to release an upgraded Maxima in 2002 as I am at their decision to release an upgraded Altima in 2002 with better specs than a 2001 Maxima. That really is insane thinking on Nissan's part. One of the cardinal rules in selling is that it's more difficult to acquire a new customer than retain an old customer. I can't help but wonder how many old customers Nissan lost when they stuck their knife in the backs of 2001 Maxima owners.

Had Nissan used their heads, they would have released the 2002 Maxima first and an upgraded Altima in 2003. That way the 2003 Altima would still have lagged behind the 2002 Maxima in terms of performance. But that's not what they did.

I suspect Nissan's decision will eventually come back to haunt them.

RE: 2002 Maxima...

Will the 2002 Maxima still be the 5th generation, or will it move up to the 6th generation? Just wondering.

why is everyone so hot & bothered about the 2002, when the big difference is supposed to be the 2003 MAX...

Love my Max-no regrets at all... yet anxious to see the 6th gen 2003....
