I have 2000 5-speed.
This Saturday I was comming back from this resturant. My friend was driving next to me in 1999 Accord Coupe V6.
So we come to this light, really nice straight road.
the light is red. I rev the car to about 2K RPMS, the light turns green I dump the clutch and the car just starts spiining like crazy, got to 7K RPMS in like less than a second. While I am spining like crazy in frist gear, my friend takes off nicely and starts pulling away. I go into second gear and start catching up to him, but couldn't over take him after that.

I noticed that if I slip clutch longer when I take off from the light, and after the wheels hooked up then I floor it I get much better first gear launch.

What is the best way to launch?? dumping the clutch always seems to make my car spinn to much in first. I have stock 17" rims on my 2000 SE.

ANyways, I just wanted to see what other people are thinking the best lunch on 2000 SE 5-speed will be.

Thanks.

Daniel.

I know I have a 4th gen, but I get the same thing...

Slipping the clutch makes a big difference. I don't dump it at all. Just makes noise and puts more strain on the tranny...
In fact depending on the road conditions, my car will move sideways. That's the curse of a FWD car I guess.

On really hard launches you should learn to ride the clutch for a while, usually on street roads you should tone down on the launches since it is hard to predict how well the tire will hook up to the road.

I've been lurking. :)

I'm a moderator over at a message board for imports and I have to keep telling people that just because they beat a 2000 Maxima on the streets doesn't mean that Maxima's suck and V6 Accords can kick their azz's.

Now I know why people keep posting their stories about "smoking" Maximas. I keep trying to tell them that if you look at the numbers the Maxima eats us for lunch and that it all depends on the driver. (Especially if its a 5 speed)

Anyway, I'm officially coming out the shadows and just wanted to say y'all have a nice website here and that most of the people here seem to be pretty mature which is more than I can say about a lot of the "other" import fans.

Anyway, I have much respect Maxima's and from what I can see a lot of you guys are running some really nice times bone stock with 5 speed.

Leave the clutch dumping for Burnout Contests!

Thats the ONLY time you should be doing that.
Or while warming up your slicks in the burnout box.

1800-2200RPM is my sweet spot for the least spin. Forget the dump and just let it out as fast as your foot can control.

I get virtually no spin with 235 street rubber and a quick 0-60mph speed.

Maybe my maxima hasn't got any torque but I've let the clutch out hard (not quite dumping it) at 3500rpm and gotten little more than a shudder due to wheel hop. By the way, if you can hit 7000rpm something on your car is broke cause I hit a rev limmiter HARD at 6550! Good luck in future races and stay safe and alive man.
