Does the POP intake really add any power?

Like the Stillen and JWT ones over just a K&N Drop in? I've tried both, and at the track, and can't really find any increase in performance over just a K&N Drop in?

If it does I couldn't tell. Actually, a guy ran his Max w/OSACI at the SAME track(different night and it was hotter) and posted a FASTER trap speed then mine. His time slip was slightly slower until the final trap speed, so his car is apperently stronger on the top end where I thought my SI would help. I definitely noticed a torque loss on the bottom end and now I'm skeptical about any gain on the top end. I still like it for the looks and growl at WOT though.

Well you cant go comparing a different car different days and assume that its an intake, too many varibles , the POP charger is going to give you high end power, mabye more "noticable" on a 5-spd but if this is your only mod you are going to hear it more then you are going to "feel" it,there is a slight loss in low end but if it was combined with exhaust/y-pipe etc the gains are going to be greater........

I agree somewhat. I was able to tell he difference in the low end when I went back to stock. My dyno showed 6.5 HP higher. My 1/4 mile times showed a large benefit too.

On the same track (Capital Raceway) in chronological order:

1-Stock 15.9
2-JWT 15.47 (15.5 average)
3-Stock 15.9
4-OSCAI 15.6
5-CAI?? (soon)

Well stillen says they have dynoed their's at 6 to 8HP also over the phone, but I'm not seeing it. I use JWT (Stillen Free For Me)

Anyhow, I put the stock unit back, and a panel filter form K&N. Much better for the hot days. Maybe the POP will be great for winter use. Plus, my MAF went out a few months ago, and infiniti asked if I had an intake, and that may cause it Even though I had the stock unit in when they came to tow the car No real gains for me, and I tested it alot, and also already have the Y pipe.

It makes a sweet freaking sound.... and i only noticed that the car jumps from like 55 to 110mph in like .1 seconds now.

When I put my universal K&N cone filter on, it roars when you sweep past 3K rpms and it pulls like crazy if you are crusing at around 35mph and gun it. I love it and I love the sound. The only thing I don't like about it is that when accelerating lightly, at about 2k rpms you can hear a hisssing sound, but it then goes away when passing 2.5k rpms. Oh well I can live with it!

that hissing might be an air leak, make sure everything tight and snug and that the hoses are sealed properly.....

I get that hissing sound also, maybe it is normal..its very quiet but not totally quiet at idle. The hissing sound/whistling sound is kinda cool!! Ever drive by a 2k1 Porche Carrera: same sound.

Mine does that too... a slight hissing... I checked all around the filter and tightened up the bands and everything.. i don't think I have an air leak.. it could be that that's just what those cone filters do at medium air speed..

Mine also, its not a leak, just the way air is entering the cone filter.

Mine was on right too. As I get older, the pickier I get. How did your former CAI in your Maxima compare to the cone intake in your I30 in sound?

The CAI is a lot louder, plus you have to cut a hole, but more gains. I really don't think the pop helps at all on these summer days. I know it doesn't help on the street, and I've tried the track. I think the POP for the winter and the stock box with a drop in K&N for the summer, or a CAI year round are your best bets.
