I found two different filters at the K&N website. Which one do you guys use? #33-2031-2? Or #HP-1010?

As far as I know, the #33-2031-2 is the part number for the K&N air filter so I would assume that the other number is the correct for the oil fiter, but you might want to double check just to be sure.

I checked with the autoparts store. They said that the filter is the second part number. Thanks for replying.

I don't think that filter is worth the money. If you read the box it comes in, it says it filters out 91% of the impurities on the first pass. Regular $3 fram filters filter out 96% on the first pass.

You are only paying for the name, dont buy it!

... speaking of oil filters,

are there oil filters made especially for synthetic, or does it really not matter?

I was thinking of the getting the K&N drop in also, are you saying don't get it?

It looks like you sport one in your list of mods? Help clarify.

Thanks

I think raynist is definitely refering to the oil filter. The air filter: 1-gets you some HP, 2-has a million mile warranty (i.e. the life of your car + cleaner), making it $45 bucks well spent.

Sorry for the confusion, I was refering to the oil filter.

mobil one has a filter that i would assume would be made for mobil one synthtic. what i currently use is purelator
pure one. from what i read it's suppose to fiter out the highest % of impurities.

Oil filters 'filter' -- It does not mater what type of oil goes in/out of them. The claim to fame for the Mobil 1 oil filter is a synthetic filter media and a very strong case (or 'can'). While Mobil 1's synthetic filter media is good, it's no better than Purolator's Pure One, another highly rated oil filter. Search the forum for "oil filters" and read up on them -- you will be amazed at the quality differences between 'name' filters.

I did a little research on oil filters, and ended up with the Purolater, too, touse with my Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Mobil 1 filter costs about $10. OEM Nissan filter variably $6-8 (according to the dealers around here I spoke with), and the (highly-rated) Purolater cost me only $5 at Sears.

To RAYNIST,

Where are you going to get a Fram for $3? I pay around $12-14 in Washington.
So, for about $40 including the cleaning and oiling kit a
K & N is a great deal. One time purchase, no brainer

This whole discussion is about oil filters. I only pay $3 for a Fram oil filter. I have a k&n air filter in my car.

I'm going to have to research this one guys, my understanding is that the key with any oil filter should be particle size that is filtered @ a certain %age on 1st pass yield and successive yields if that data is available. Based on data I've seen somewhere (Amsoil site comes to mind) I know that the Fram filters filter out 96% of 25 to 40 micron particles on 1st pass while filters such as Mobil 1 and K&N filter out a bit lower percentage of much smaller (10 - 20) micron particles via the first pass. If those filters rated their flow based on the huge (relatively speaking) 25 - 40 micron particles -- which by the way typically cause the highest wear on engine internals-- then they would surpass Fram filters easily. I believe the best filter available (cost no object) is the Amsoil SDF depth flow filter which filters down to 5 - 10 micron particles. Also keep in mind that some filters use much cheaper materials which can impact long term durability as well as flow rate in addition to any concerns about particle sizes being captured. I'd say stick to Pure One at least, but I've used only Mobil1 and K&Ns in my vehicles for some time now.
