I Finally got my New UDP on.. After a big headache, a few overnighted parts and a little of hasseling dave b. Now I have squeaky belts.. How do I meausure deflection of the belts.. I read the for a new compressor belt the deflection should be 3.8-4.1 mm, and the power steering belt should be 6.5-7 mm. SO how do I meausure that?

There is a tool to measure belt deflection. I have heard reference to them but have yet to find one. I wanted to get one in anticipation of installing a UDP. Do a search on "belt deflection tool" and you'll probably get a few hits.

If you go this route, let everybody know where you found one.

Good luck

Take your index finger and thumb... put it on the belt (between the a/c and crank)... twist the belt towards you...

If you can twist it greater than 90 degrees... too loose
If you can't twist it greater than 90 degrees... too tight

This isn't the most acurate way, but it works.

done

well I did not do the lil turn thingy kev refferd to.. but I do bealive I have it "o.K" the smaller belt is just a lil looser than the bigger one..(it called for 6-7mm) the big one is perty tight.. i figured because 3-4 mm of deflection. I would think the belt would bearly move up and down.. 3 mm is not far..

SO the squeaky problem.. Want to know what it was? The pulley that moves up and down to adjust the big belt had to be taken off to repalce the I-Bolt I broke.. Well there was a washer that was not put back in(dumb friend).. I actually had to ghetto rig a smaller washer by drilling out the inside.. no squeek and should be fine..

welll

Well to tell you the truth.. Slow.. I've been driving a 13 sec mustang all week... Soo I really dunno.. I took it out on the highway.. took off at the start of the on ramp..maybe it spools a lil faster? Hard to tell.. I sware everytime I do a mod I think my car is slower so I dunno guys.

If I put a supercharger in do I have to switch back to teh stock pulley?

hehehe.... after a 13 sec Mustang, the max will feel a bit slow Anyhow, the revs do seem to climb a bit quicker and with less effort. Off the line it may be slightly quicker also. If your car gets slower with more mods, its time to join the Slow Maximas Club ....

You can't use the UDP with the SC since you would be underboosting.....

Yeah that's what I figured.. Wasn't sure if I was understanding on how the supercharger workes..

Is there some literature that describes how nissan engines work in general?? Or all engines for that matter.

Ahh SMC huh? maybe so

thanks
