I've been test driving quite a few 01's lately thinking I might consider a good deal on a end of model year Max. Last night the dealer got in a 02 GXE auto and let me take it out - alone. I was impressed. At cruising speed it only took a quick 'tap' on the throttle to downshift and the transition was quick and smooth and the car pulled strong. Press a little harder for drop down two. I didn't get to accelerate from a dead stop but I did make a U-turn and punch it hard. A very strong pull with no lag from the transmission. This car has got to run a 7.0 second 0-60 if not a few ticks quicker. The HID's were nice with the slight blue colored light. I thought the standard audio system was just fine. I can't decide on the rear tail lights. I'll definitley wait for a 02 now. A GXE would be fine but the sorry velour seats are just the worst - the material not the padding. For anyone thinking about a 01 but wish the engine/auto trans combination worked better don't decide until you drive a 02.

I drove an '02 GLE and was impressed with the performance. It's a shame the Helical Limited Slip Differential isn't available for the slushboxes.

Trust me it is way more aggresive and shifte without jolts aor that hanging action. It sort of reminds me of the way the 3rd gen's shifted very smooth.
