I cought part of the new 2k2 Maxima commercial last night during the "X-Files". In the new commercial, a new 255 hp 5spd SE is once again back at the salt flats and outruns "the Grim Reaper" who is on horseback. Obviously 1hp can't compete with 255 hp in the Max. The ad ends with "Cars Like It : 0".

Don't worry "Grimmey", you'll have plenty of company with all those TL/CL drivers out there - they aren't able to keep up with Maximas either!

(Okay, I'm just waiting for someone to say "Nice Kill!")

I heard a rumor that Nissan was having problems with the 6-speed. But then again, it is just a rumor heard on this board.

5 Or 6 Speed, That is the Question......

Geez- hard to tell if it was a 5 or 6 speed. Maybe I should have said "manual" transmission instead.

They show a veeery brief cut of the driver downshifting and then it cuts to an outside shot showing the Maxima blasting away from the Reaper-man and leaving him in a cloud of salt dust.

Pretty sure it wasn't an Automagic, though!

BTW, is it me or has "Death" been showing up in an awful lot of commercials in the last year or so? (i.e. Jeep's "What A Day For a Daydream" ad, etc.) Who's his agent? Does he belong to the actor's guild?

Just curious.....

I saw the whole commercial five minutes ago. It's a sterling mist manual SE accelerating across the desert getting chased by "the grim reaper" and then he downshifts and just leaves the guy in the dust. Guys vioce comes on saying "255HP" or "The power of 255HP." I thought it was awesome.

Clarification

WE WISH! I gotta learn how to work those parentheses and quote things better, I guess!

No, the commercial didn't add that comment.
(Althooooough, there is that thing about "truth in advertising.........)

The Reaper's ride looked to be stock - his horse appreared to be normally aspirated (didn't notice a blue bottle tucked under the horses' tail either). It's probably only a matter of time before the guys over on the Grim Reaper-on-a-black-horse.org website start flaming about how he would have beat the new Max if only his VTEC had kicked in and/or hadn't forgotten to turn off the traction control or had installed those "Iron Scythe" headers that are good for at least 50 more horses.

I knew this was gonna happen!!!!!

When I first saw the comercial Is liked it.....well....bacause it was a maxima. I then thought....a damn horse is catching up with the maxima.....and he has to downshift to pull away.

So....here it was last night....and the frickin commercial came on over at my cousins (He is a GM man) and here came the insults. "The horse is catching up with your car!! HEHE" He has to downshift to pull away...(And the car didn't pull away very fast...kind of like a max pulling on a Acura TL)"It looks like the horse ran out of breath!!!!" All I could do was chuckle with him....because this commercial sux azz!!!!!

Nissan......your commercial sux azz....what happened to the cool soundtracks and the neat camera angles???? What is the top speed of a fricking horse anyways....30 mph? How does this make the car cool? You tell me!!!!!!

I knew people were going to say sh*t about that commercial. The first time I saw the commercial was after someone mentioned it on this forum. When I saw the horse keeping up with the Maxima, I knew people would make fun of the car. 1HP vs 255HP and the car has a hard time pulling away from the horse??

The Maxima Is Faster Than Death

geeze, don't be so literal about the horse thing - it's symbolic.

Maybe the Reaper was on a "Rust-stank" GT

Maybe the horse was running nitrous.....

Then again, if Death was on your back, you'd probably run faster than you normally would/could too!

RELAX A LITTLE - IT'S AN UPSHIFT!!!!

Just caught the commercial again and noticed that at first, the Max is just cruising at a slow to moderate rate. When the Reaper gets close, the driver UPSHIFTS and punches it, leaving the reaper behind. In a fit of frustration the reaper throws his scythe to the ground. Remember Mr. Reaper, NEVER, EVER try to take a Max from a rolling start!

(BTW, I would have sworn I caught a glimpse of a letter "A" (or something that looked like it) branded on Death's horse's flank - but I could have been mistaken....)

Hate to keep beating a dead horse (or is that Death's horse)....
