hi guys,
I will be picking up my 2002 SE this saturday. Of course I'm excited as hell, but I also was wondering if you guys have any good tips on how to break in the car?

Damn people like me are barely breaking in a 2001SE and you talking about a 2002SE?

Congrats on the new ride and I know you will love it.

Um, lets see, I believe most of it is written in the manual about not going more than 3k or 4k or higher on the rpms for the first 500miles or something. Try to keep the RPMs changing, like dont cruise it at 60mph for like 200miles. The key is keep the RPMs moving so all the new parts settle in and get "acquainted" with each other.

Hey, congrats on the new car. What color is it?

Like the manual says, just make sure you dont take it above like 4000 RPM and no highway driving either.
Take car of your Max and it will take car of you for at least 200,000 miles. My 98SE, which I purchased new, has 100K and it's as good as new.

thanks!
this is weird, I replied to my original post and listed my options, etc. , but the post didn't show up.
Anyways:
Sterling Mist
Black Leather, Bose system, meridian edition, traction control, moonroof, front side air bags, and I guess that's it.
BTW- why did they name the cold package as the "Meridian Edition?"

You can take it up higher once in a while, but don't do it all the time. Congrats on the new car!!!

You can put your "signature" in your sig file. Click on profile -> edit profile -> Signature. If you put your signature in there, you won't have to type it out each time you post.

WHOA, that's like 30k miles a year!!! Glad to hear it's running well, though (phew, that must've been a lot of driving)

Hey! I got an idea. Drive your new 2002 to Dallas and we'll break it in together! Be sure to let me drive first because it breaks the car in better that way

J/K Congrats on the new purchase.

Congratulations on the first that I've heard to get a 2002. Oh and go easy on the brakes too for that break in period. Don't want to warp your brakes. I wonder if the 02s are better.

Congrats on your new max. I got a Majestic Blue 2002 se about two weeks ago. It is a sweet car. I am going to break mine in by driving it to the NOPI show in Atlanta. You will like this car alot!

dont go over speed limit LOL. Seriously, the book recommends not speeding up above 70mph during the break in. Try not to have the car least loaded if possible (2 passengers max). The highway break-in is the best, just change RPMs. Premium gas, always. Let it serve you well.

Congrats!

I just brought home a 2002 SE myself. 10 days old and I have 890 miles on it. Tomorrow we are going up to Windy Ridge on Mt Saint Helens. 240 miles round trip.

Well, I wish we had the Volkswagon break in schedule....My boss just bought a 2001 Jetta VR6 and the manual says for the first 500 miles not to exceed 120 mph!!!! Think I'm joking, this is serious.....I guess those things are autobahn ready from the factory! By the way, I raced him yesterday and smoked him by 2 car lengths up to 80 mph....

Congrats on your '02 SE

Considering that I am now the oldest Max to reply to this thread....

But seriously, your car will last a good 200k or more. My '94 is about 90,000 miles away from that now and I bought it with 72,000 1 year and 5 days ago.
