What is the B-Pipe?
#3
take a look at the pipe directly behind the main cat. Notice the huge crimp in it. I don't know how restrictive it is in reality, but it looks pretty bad. The b-pipe is the pipe from the cat back to the muffler. It includes in it the resonator, which is the big cylindrical thing in the middle of the pipe behind the cat.

i got that replaced with a 2.25" pipe, no resonator.. what the diff from that and a hi flow pipe?

high flow pipe? do you mean high flow cat? The high-flow cat replaces your stock cat... Random Tech makes these in 2.5" and 3" versions... b-pipe is just a pipe.... I guess you can say it is high-flow since yours is nice and smooth and straight

Ohboiya you got the HKS right? At what point did it connect to your stock system? ie. right from the resonator or was it just a muffler? There is a major crimp coming out of the res that looks restrictive for sure! If you replace your res with a straight pipe and with the HKS on your car now it is going to get super LOUD I imagine. The Greddy EVO seems to replace everything from the Cat back..

My HKS is the muffler plus about 3-4 feet of bent tubing ... is this the restrictive bends everyone is talking about?

yes, it looks pretty bad.... but I haven't seen any concrete dyno results proving its restrictiveness.... stuff after the y-pipe seems not to make a large difference in gains....

I'm think that if you got an intake->y-pipe->rt cat->greddy evo it would be the best bet. Ohboiya look under you car and see if the HKS connected directly to the res? With stock there is a major crimp in the pipe after the res maybe the HKS rids that crimp?

dude..... .3 seconds in the 1/4 mile from just the cat and b-pipe is pretty good.... I doubt that a 5th gen would see those types of gains from jus the cat and b-pipe....

For those of you that have the custom b-pipe with y-pipe does it make you exhaust sound any louder. I went to a local shop and they quoted me $270 for a custom mandrel bent ss b-pipe. Does that sound reasonable or is it a rip off. Also, do you notice any performance gains by doing this???

Has anyone heard of any company making a b-pipe for the 5th gens?? I think that it would help us out a bit combined with the y-pipe/intake. I feel that the stock muffler flows great, but the b-pipe is the main restriction. With the increased flow of exhaust from the y-pipe, that crimp is just multiplying the effect on backpressure. I think I am gonna look around more and get a custom one made. Should be good for about 4-6 hp, dont you think??

no company, as far as I know, makes just the b-pipe for the 5th gens. GREDDY make a full cat-back system that includes the b-pipe and muffler though. If you want just the b-pipe now, your only option is perhaps to get a custom pipe....
