Altima Vs Maxima 2002
Ok, just came back from the Altima 2002 Launch party. Well it looks sweet , the 3.5L. THe CDN costing is 3.5L $33,000. THe base model comes in at $23,000 CDN. THe base model has got 90% cheap material. BUT I don't think it is worth the extra $10,000 to goto the 3.5L.
Since we all here own Maximas of every year, I still think we got the better deal/quality. Its the quality that the Altima still can't beat. They couldn't tell me if the Altima was made in Japan. I looked at the VIN numbers. No letter "J" EVen though we all have the 3.0L engine.
We just have to save up for the 3.5L or wait till they redo the Maxima for 2003. According to the sales guys, the new Max will look complete different.

BTW, The Altima is built in Smyrna, Tenn., the same place the 2003 Max will be built!

can you tell me how the cheap the altima is? I might consider the 2.5 S, the 2.5 S sells for like $23000+ the $1500 option which comes with like power windows and alloy wheels. which is abt the same as sentra SE-R

No more Japanese made MAXs?
That is too bad...
The quality just shows. Put a MAX 2000 or 2002 and a Altima together.
The insides are very very different. Quality wise, nothing beats Japanese QC.

I'm all for Japanese made quality but just because the new Altimas look cheap doesn't mean that the people in Tennesse can't do just as good of a job as the people in Japan. The plant in Tenn doesn't approve or disapprove the parts put into the car. That decision is made for them. As for the Maxima in 2003, so what if they make it in Tenn? Look at our cars now that are made in Japan Squeaks, rattles, unalinged trunks, poor quality paint jobs, messed up rotors...etc.
Listen, I'm not trying to flame stuff made in Japan. Overall I think that the quality is somewhat better. But it's not the end of the world if Nissan now builds their cars here in the US.
