odd sound coming from that fuel thing in the back
the past two days here in northern california have been real hot.. i'm not sure if it's because of the hot weather, or i haven't noticed this "sound" before or if it's a new found flaw in the design of the 5th gen maxima.. but i get this weird intermitten humm from back there.. it seems to come from a weird valve system.. is it slowly bleeding pressure from my gas tank? or is it just angry at me??/ please help me.. i dont' want to bring it to a dealership and have some genius tell me it's "normal"
thanks in advanced

Noise from fuel tank
I am experiencing this with my 03 GLE. I searched on fuel tank pressure and found your thread from more than a year ago. No replies makes me think no one else has had this occur. But we are hearing it now, too. We've had the car for 3 months and my wife first mentioned this to me last week.
Anybody else having this weird noise at all? My son heard it tonight and when he opened the fuel cap, it stopped. But when it is happening, my wife describes it as a humming type of sound that winds down and then recycles a few times.
I've found no TSB's and just wonder if it is something to be concerned about.
Any comments, even no comments at all, are welcome as we try to diagnose this. You can imagine what a dealer might tell me, you know.
Thanks!

It's perfectly normal, lol.
The sound is pressure built up in the gas tank, I beleive there is some sort of pressure bleder that allows the presure to escpae slowly. Next time you hear the sound open up the gas tank and you will hear the pressure shoot out of it, then the sound will stop.

Well, that is what I'm thinking but my wife was kind of concerned. I mean, it is weird when you are not accustomed to such a noise. It is odd to me that I've never heard it in either my 01 or my 02 max, or any other car for that matter.
Can I presume you have had the experience?
Thanks for replying.
