I'm the one that posted the dyno chart showing a loss for the UDP. To date, I haven't figured out why the dyno came out that way but have come up with a number of theories including: some other change in my car, dirty air filter, dyno issues, temp/humidity = retarded timing, etc.

Short of it is that on the street I didn't feel any loss and racing against another 5spd 2k showed no loss. But I can affirmatively say that this is not a knock your socks off mod. If there is a benefit for 5th gens it is very small IMO. 4ths seem to have better results.

it could be many different reasons for your power loss...like you said, the temperature, the humidity, dirty filter and oil, worn out plugs and fuel pump...or ur car just didn't feel like posting the best numbers that particular day..

I've run it two different times on the same dyno - same results. Since I have only 25k on the car, I doubt it was plugs or fuel pump.

I'll figure it out eventually!!

To the best of my knowledge a harmonic balanced pulley is engineered for our cars and the product in question is not engineered this way. I see problems in the future but maybe I could be wrong. This is just a guess seeing most cars are engineered this way I didn't research it so don't flame.

There's a whole bunch of discussion on this matter in the archives. You can also go to www.unorthodoxracing.com . Short of it is we do not have a harmonic balancer and the udp should not cause any problems.

dunno, seems as though the guys with 5-Speeds are saying its lackluster and the autos are praising it like the second coming....or they could just be overenthusiastic

Get one, install it, you decide if there's any noticeble gains...
Like most have said, the revs are much faster and the car seems to scoot along a little quicker. No HUGE power gains. If you don't like it, sell it.

Who knows, maybe the car acts different to the sum of the modded parts?

TO THOSE WITH UDP INSTALLED!! S-O-S

I get squeling pig rape noise when i start the car for the first time after long periods of being off (cold start). It only happens , for instance in the morning, when i take my car to school. Its the belts or something. Hogan is gonna take a look at it this weekend hopefully, but i am an impatient bastard. It sounds like i drive a HOOPTY when i start my car.. the annoying noise lasts about 8 seconds then goes away , i guess once its warm.
Anyway, is there a quick fix to this?? ANyone get this problem.. can i just add oil or something.
The UDP is indeed the "Second coming" , its an awesome power MOD. It's not psychological. Hmmmm. Y-Pipe next?

Roger

Uh, I wouldn't add oil!

Sounds like belts are loose.

it's definitely just loose belts... they may need to be adjusted after driving with the new UDP... it's pretty normal

also, definitely get a y-pipe... if you liked the UDP so much, you will surely like the y-pipe

Well I've had my UDP for a few days now and here is my $.02:

1) A little quicker off the line and the revs climb faster.
2) No problems with A/C, power steering or stereo.

The mod helps a little but is nothing earth shattering from my experience. The Y-Pipe and Intake are definately the way to go. I think I will be getting Don's VB Mod and a Tranny Cooler soon to improve my shifts.

Right...cars like Supras have harmonic balancers in their motors...Maximas do not...it really shouldn't cause a problem like that. However, it is a documented problem in cars WITH the balancers.

As for the pig rape squeal, tighten those belts, goofball! You will notice that the belts will stretch a little over time and need to be tightnened. The squeal will only happen after starting up after a period of inactivity, or a temperature change (usually from warm to cold, as the rubber will contract in the cold).

edit: in the 4th gen it's pretty easy, but I don't know of the 5th gens are different.
