the light means that you have low oil pressure
the rattle means the tensioner doesnt have enough oil pressure to work

you are burning oil...maybe not a lot...but you are

I don't have a 3.5 but a 3.0, and ever since I've had the car, the oil light flickers when I first start it up. No timing chain rattle and I haven't noticed any oil burning...

Yes, for like 2 seconds until the oil gets circulated.

Well, this happened to me a decade ago in my fathers Jaguar. I was on the interstate and the oil pressure light was flickering on along with that sound you speak off. After I pulled off the interstate, the engine through it's rods through the oil pan and motor was destroyed. Luckily it was under warranty, but it's something you might want to get fixed soon.

nah no rattle...dont think too much of it esp. if your oil level is good. Like I said, my oil light flickers upon initial start-up and my level is good

How much oil can burn in those first few seconds of inital startup? I didn't think it was a big deal.

Common chaps.......it takes about 9 - 12 psi of oil pressure at the LOP switch to put the LOP light out. The time for the pump to build up that pressure and put the light out on a start varies, and the light may flicker as the engine accelerates up to idle, particularly with low viscosity oils and a hot engine. With the Maxi, how good the oil filter drain back valve is working obviously has a lot to do with it as well.
