15k miles later , only 220 mile s full tank of gas
When i bought the 2001 Maxima , i thought the engine didnt break in yet as an explanation for the awfal gas economy. But after 15k miles i usually get between 200-220 miles per full tank.
Anyone have this problem after using the car for more than 5000 miles?

Another possibility is if you drive in stop and go traffic all day or if you fill up when you still have 6 + gallons in your tank.
You could even have a small gas leak.

gas mileage
always remember that you can get more miles out
of the car overall if you fill the gas to the top....i found that 2+ gallons will go into the tank after the pump shuts down the first time..
also check air pressure in the tires / the air cleaner isn't clogged / change gas stations/brands etc....(simple things being simple)

waking up to a new world everyday... we have talked about this about 20 times now.
I will post it again...
"Your gas mileage OBVIOUSLY depends on your driving style.. BUT emissions has everything to do with it.
your car will get 15mpg for the first 8-14 mins. ALL v6 imports are 14-17mpg. Consumer Reports V6 roundup last summer will tell you all you need to know about it. An Audi A6 got 14 mpg!
This doesnt mean your temp needle, this means all your exhaust components are at normal operating temp. that takes alot longer than your temp gauge. After that, your mpg will increase drastically. If you rarely drive more than 15 mins, your mileage will always suck.. period. "

The most I have ever pushed out of my tank is 308 but that was stretching it a little. I used to average about 280 before my gas light would come on but for some reason these last few weeks, I can only get about 250 before my gas light pops on. I drive the same speed limit, 55, mostly highway and some city driving but can't figure out why my gas mileage sucks. Friend of mine has same year max and drives about the same as me but yet he gets around 380-400 miles on his tank. Time to go see the dealer I guess. Good luck.

Guys, I don't know what you are doing but have your car checked out. I have 40K miles on my car. From Day 1 to now.. I have always gotten more then 370 a tank. The most I ever got was 450 going to florida.
One more thing.. for guys who use regular. Car And Driver did a dyno on 6cars with Regular and Premium. Guess what. On average the cars made 1-3 more hp with higher Octane Gas. So Treat your car to good Gas.

You *could* have a bad coil or some sort of emissions problem... *OR* you could just be making short trips and getting 14.5mpg, which would be normal. The only reason I keep saying all this is that I went on Diag several times. The dealer knows nothing about emissions. Eventually they wanted to charge me for additional work because everything was spec each time. It wasnt until I read what consumer reports said about ALL new V6 cars did I realize my short trip mileage was normal. However, if you insist on heading the dealer to be told your car is normal and to fork over $60 for a diag, be my guest. I mean, if you are getting hesitation, loss of power, ANY pinging, or are doing more highway mileage with the car warmed up, then by all means, something IS wrong.
Yeah, I get over 400-450 when I take long trips with a fully warmed exhaust system.. but only 15mpg on my 5 min drive to work (and thats not revving it or driving hard)

Poor Gas Mileage
Guys, go to the dealer and have ur car checked out immediately. I bought my car used, had 15k. I never get less than 22mpg. That is in heavy stop & go traffic. I have the Stillen hi-flo and y-pipe. Yes a lot has to do with your driving style, but I'm sure we don't all drive like maniacs. I have averaged 26-28mpg on long trips, cruise control set @ 70 mph. Last car I had was 2000 Accord Coupe V6, worst mileage I got was 21mpg. Average on long trips was 28mpg. Our maxes have an 18.5 gal. tank. If you guys are getting 200-250, maybe 300 mp tank. Something has to be very wrong. I go as far as 300-350 miles b4 low gas indicator comes on. Good luck.

mpg
Instead of saying what we get on a "tank of gas" it is more meaningful and accurate to calculate the actual MPG.
I have the 95 Max and 2000 I30.(Both Autos) Always get 20-22MPG on short trips (drive to work is 5 miles) and 29-32 on long trips (interstate at 70)
Since I have two cars to compare, I would say if you are not getting near these numbers something is wrong.
(This is on 92 octane and I live in the N.E.)

Mileage on Max
Hey Guys, as I was driving home I remembered about ur thread. The first week that I had my car, I got about 18mpg. I bought the car with roughly 15K from the dealer. I let the tank run almost empty, and after the second fill-up, with premium unleaded, I finnally got much better mileage. I think the reason behind that initial low mileage could have been the dealer using cheap regular unleaded gas. Our cars SPECIFICALLY CALL FOR Premium Unleaded Gas. What kind of gas are u guys using. Another thing, I never fill up @ convenience stores. I mostly use Exon, Texaco, Diamond Shamrock.

Re: Mileage on Max
For all of you that are , or for those people that just didn't know, if you did a search on this subject you would find about three pages worth of info on bad gas mileage. One of the threads, I started myself. Were just beating a dead horse by talking about a subject that has already been posted numerous times before. If you would like to view that thread, go here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ht=gas+mileage
Now this is for the 5th. gen but I'm sure it's almost the same as the others. Have plenty of pages of info on the same thing. Enjoy!!

Welp
I drive on avg about 180 miles per day in my Max or 900 miles per week. Most of it is highway but I do have to cut through Boston everyday. Depending on how much I put my foot into it on takeoffs I avg between 24-28 mpg.
I usually get my best mileage when I run about 80mph with the windows up.
