Might need a mass airflow sensor on my 03
2003 automatic, about 64000 miles, Injen intake. Cleaned the air filter using Injen's kit on Sunday. Today my check engine light came on. Earlier during the evening, the car completely died while I was cruising between 1 and 2k rpm around 20mph. I suspect the Mass Air Flow sensor is the culprit. I plan to head down to Autozone tomorrow to see what the code is and then take the necessary actions.
I also noticed that the engine would hold rpms after I let my foot off the gas then go up say 300-400rpm and come back down.
I have searched before, maybe not as thoroughly as I could since it's late. Hope no one rags on me for asking what is likely a duplicate question. A friend of mine has an 2001 MAF and we wanted to see if they were compatible or if I could take off the necessary piece from the 01 and use it on my 03.
Thanks again to all of you who have taken the time out to help a fellow .org member.

First off, find out what code it's giving you.
Then, I would recheck the piping, since, I would assume that you moved things around a little bit when taking the filter off in order to clean it. You may have not connected something correctly.
Personally, I would rip the Injen out and throw it away.
If you do find out it's the MAF, buy your friends MAF and do this --> http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=258878.
And after I installed the new piece (MAF), I would make sure I didn't over oil the filter.

Code: P0340 - Camshaft position sensor (bank 1)
Car stalled twice today, once on Jericho Tpke and again on 110.
Made appointment with local dealer to have them look at it.
Should this be the real reason for my issues, there is a TSB.
2003 NISSAN MAXIMA ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Recall Date: 11/17/2003
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.
Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.
Potential Units Affected: 630000

Yeah have an 2003 Maxima, I called Nissan and had them check the VIN to see if mines on the list for this repair. It wasn't, so you can call Nissan or a dealership and have them check the VIN to see if yours in on the recall list.
Hope you get this taken care of okay.

check eng light (mass air flow)
my check eng light came on so i take it to autozone tohave it check and it read (PO171 bank1 system too lean PO174 bank2) but i just replace all 3 sensors about 6 mouth ago so he told me to remove the mass air flow and clean it also check the air lines ect... i read this on a site
(if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling)
so what is the best to use to clean the maf and do i just spray the inside?
please anyone can helpme out thanks

People PLEASE.
Unless you're getting P0100, do NOT touch your MAF! I made the same mistake and was assed out of $120. The MAF will give you that trouble code and you will experience absolutely NO power when accelerating. It's very easily diagnosed so PLEASE get second opinions before you start tearing things apart.

really, is that the only reason? NO! there are always multiple symptoms that result from a poor MAF. for me, no codes, but bad mileage and power. replaced MAF, reset ECU and guess what? all is better. so people PLEASE, research your problem and dont listen to just one person who doesnt really know what theyre talking about
