Rubbing noise coming from front drivers side wheel

Every time i go over a bump with my wheel turned, i can hear a rubbing/knocking noise coming from my front drivers side wheel well... i dont think it makes the noise when the wheel is straight and going over bumps, but only when turned.. is it the strut... ball joint... something else??

Might be a loose fender liner.

well is it a rubbing noise, or a knocking noise?? They are completely different and depending on which it is will give us a better idea of the problem.....

it's like a... muffled knocking noise.. kinda hard to explain... i'd say more like a rubbing noise than a knocking noise though.. my bad for not being clear.. maybe i should jack the car up, turn the wheel and move it up and down to see where it's coming from

If it's rubbing, you should see where the tire is rubbing from left behind rubber. If there is none, guess it's a knock, then it could be a ton of things.

We need more info.

i have something that sounds like that on mine as well. Its like a squishy crunch......i guess thats the best I could describe it.

At first I though it was the strut, but its only when I am turning, so that doesnt really make sense to me. Mine is on the drivers side to, but only when I turn the wheel way to the right.

Have some one turn the wheel (while the car is in PARK) while you inspect the area. If you don't see anything - try jacking the car up and move things around. Look and see if anything looks like it has unusual wear - use the other side as a reference point. Could be several different things - process of elimination.

When the ball joint on my eclipse was going out it made that same sound. You could jack the wheel off the ground and grab the wheel. If you have a lot of play it could the ball joint or a tie rod end. I wouldn't think a wheel bearing would only make noise under 'x' condition rather it would be chattering when driving under normal conditions.
