Is there a way to hook up the 02' factory bose subwoofer to an aftermarket headunit?

I tried asking this in the audio section but no one replied.

So my 02' came with an sony aftermarket headunit but the installer did not hook up the subwoofer so there was basically ZERO bass. But that headunit got stolen and now i'm looking for a replacement.

I was wondering if its possible to hook up an aftermarket headunit to the factory subwoofer so i can have some bass?

If the original installer actually did the job right the first time, there's no reason the Bose sub wouldn't work. Mine works fine (Alpine headunit with the Bose interface adaptor)... I'm thinking maybe the sub itself is disconnected, so you may want to check the amp on the sub itself and those connections. How did the installer wire up the Sony HU, anyway?

i know when i was thinking about pullin the Bose factory deck and replacing it they told me that since i had the Bose there was another adapter that i had to buy, otherwise the sub would not work...

so maybe all you have to do is buy the other adapter?

Yes. Check Crutchfield to see exactly what you need...

I'm not really sure how the original installer installed the system. All i know is that it came with a Sony headunit and the subwoofer didn't play with the system. this is the harness that was left in my car after my headunit got stolen.

I looked on the Crutchfield site for the bose adaptor but couldnt find it.

^ Judging by those photos, I'm going to assume the connector on the end is some type of universal connecting (similar to Circuit City's) that plugs into a female end that goes to the HU. Here's the adaptor the installer should've used the first time around. Ideally, replace that harness with the one I linked to.

Regardless, your sub should work; I still say get back there and play around with the amp and the wiring... Check for the "black box" (I'm unsure if the 02-03 have this, though). It gets rid of the turn-on "thump" when the amp receives a signal from the HU.

BTW, I'm assuming your 02 came with the Bose system and no navigation...

I used the Pac-OEM thing, wired it up the night I got it, put my new headunit in the next day, and sold the bose HU for $100

Since ur car had an aftermarket deck, do u know if u have aftermarket speakers? Its possible to have just bypassed the entire bose system and rewired everything to go off the Sony

I installed a kenwood HU and ALL the bose speakers worked. Of course I un-plugged the sub and added a 12"...

When I took off the door panel after someone broke my window, I dont think that there are aftermarket speakers in there. So maybe I'll check to see if the amp is still hooked up to the subwoofer.

front page in the audio forum

the subwoofer doesnt work because the previous installer had cut the AMP wiring but all the other speakers work even with the amp plug disconnected from the amp. If I reconnect all the wiring, will the subwoofer work again?

here are the pictures from what it looks like right now
