2002 Center Console Question

Thanks everybody for all of the good advice. I have been watching the board for the past couple of months and ended up buying a 2002 SE in super black about a week ago. My car had been on the lot for a couple of weeks, and has every option including navi. I wasn't planning on buying a loaded version and I was planning on waiting for HLSD, however I took advantage of the opportunity to get the car for $800 below invoice (after rebate). Quick question - I noticed on the Nissan website the 2003 Maxima console is described as follows:

"Push a button to raise or lower the armrest between the front seats. Just select the height that's right for you. Inside, there's dual-level storage, including a cell phone compartment with a 12-volt outlet for charging."

I don't think my center console has a cell phone compartment, only a pull out cup holder behind the console with an outlet above it. Does anyone have a different console?

Thanks

pull the armrest itself, don't press any bottons, just pull it, you'll need an amount of force to open up this "secret" place, where you put your cellphone and pull the cord outside of that "secret" place to the 12-Volt Outlet.

this is confusing, but all you have to do is pull the armrest itself kinda from the top and not push or press any other bottons, just bascily pull it

The Nissan Website

Nissandriven.com also shows that a 6-disc in-dash changer is standard on all models, Bose or not. It is in the "Audio Spec" section. Is this inside that secret compartment?

No...it's inside the dash where the CD slot on the radio is..

If you have the Navigation system, however, you have a single CD in-dash (replaces the Nav CD located behind the Navigation screen). If your car is equipped with Nav, however, the changer is trunk-mounted.

Dumb question: Is this true of the 2k2 Maxima as well? I pulled and pulled and pulled ... and NADA!

Are you saying that there is a 12v outlet inside the armrest. Mine has one on back, but it is a 2k. It also has the adjustable armrest, shallow tray and deep tray.

Right, and if you look really carefully you'll see a small cut out on the back of that tray which would allow for you to run the charger cable out to that rear charger outlet.

Okay! Found it. I think. It's just a shallow tray, but it does have a cutout towards the driver's seat that would allow a cord to pass through. Man! When I finally found it, it felt like I had broken something, 'cuz there's no latch or anything to release it, and it pops out exactly like you broke it!

I just noticing this morning that the top adjustable section of the armrest seemed to be thicker than it should be , so there's some kind of hidden storage there?

Yeah, you sort of get used to that. I think it is inevitable that we will all be replacing that little latch within a couple years. It can't last that long.

Yep,

It's easy to rag on someone that resurrects an old thread. However, in many cases this shows that the poster did what we all should do, search before posting and creating a redundant thread. Post a new thread and then you get whacked the other way with responses that say you should have searched and found such and such a thread.

I've been using this "secret" comparment for years, primarily to hold my log for gas and maintenance records. It's about the perfect size for it. But I had never noticed the cutout allowing a power cord to run to the outlet in front of the back seats. So I learned something too. Sounds like this is the exact kind of serendipity that forums are designed to promote.

you search for old threads to find the answer to your question so you dont have to start a new thread.
you dont dig up an old thread with a post that doesnt
a. help answer the question
b. ask something that hasnt been answered in the thread

have you noticed that there are actually 2 cup holders in the cup holder at front, which can be taken out for different size.

Check out http://nissanpartsonline.net/

Actually the parts department of Jerry Rome Nissan in Springfield, MA. They used to have a link from the "official" dealership web site. However, I suspect Nissan may try to keep them from specifically associating with selling parts under manufacturer's list.

If you can't find the exact part through the site, send them an email with what you're looking for. They've looked up parts for me and have been very quick in shipment. Of course, I'm located less than 50 miles away. Even asked about picking up the parts myself, but again, I think they have to keep themselves separated from the dealership so all business through the web site is by shipping.
