Removing rain guards...

Before someone says google it, try it yourself. I am a programmer, and I'm very good at boolean searches (i.e. finding what I want on Google.) No luck..

I just picked up an '02 SE with 44k. It has some crappy rain guards on it (that appear to be slightly faded.) I don't want to replace them, I want them gone altogether.. so the removal ideally cant leave any permanent marks that cant be polished/buffed out.

I can't find any good information on what to use or how to approach removing rain guards, and any specific brands/products of cleaners, solvents or whatever would be great.

My guess would be to heat up on one end with a hairdryer to get the removal started, and work my way to the other end. But I'm sure there will be some residue left over, and that is what I'm concerned with.

Tomservo291, I had a 97 SE exactly like yours, color, 5 speed and all even down to the stick on window gutters. When you get them off; and your hairdryer idea works, btw, use warm soapy water followed by some bug and tar remover to get the sticky film off. After that go over the areas with some liquid wax and you should be good.

If you dont want to use chemicals wrap a few layers of masking tape around your thumb
to peel off the glue after you warm it up.
