Door Alignment

I have a problem with my front driver's side door. it opens and closes fine, but when it closes, there's a "ka-thunk" sound, with the 'ka' being the unknown noise. The door seems to be just out of alignment, with it being narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. it seems to be hitting something around the middle area of the door. is there any way of re-adjusting the door alignment?

My drivers door has a similar problem. After some analyzing it seems as if the plastic/rubber bushing has cracked, leaving the door looking like it's sagging.

You may have a similar issue.

it could also be the hinge pin. They can wear out.

How much was the cost for the parts?

hinges wore out, non-coincidentally its the drivers door!
Just get new ones from Nissan; install! And adjust striker bolt maybe!

I had my old man paint mine to match as well, as I was doing other things that needed painting too.

Your calling for me? That would be unnecessary, but appreciated.

Who needs a write up?

Should be common sence.

I never did the hinge swap, but I would assume it would be something like this.
Put a block or two under the door to support it, covered with a towel (so you don't scratch the paint) and unbolt the hinges.

Replace with the new ones.

Thats all.

it is common senSe*

be sure to tape the seam between fender and door w/ masking tape to prevent nicking!

I just bought a 2001 I30 w/ a 152k on it. Mine does the same thing. Thanks for the info. Are the Maxima hinges the same as the I30's? The Nissan dealer is right up the street, and the Infinity dealer is all the way across town.

i would recommend getting a second hand as it would really suck if something happened and the door fell over. you just like standing rims up... happen to me twice, never again.

but you might just wanna try adjusting the bolts on the hinge and see if you can do any kind of adjusting. but the first thing you gotta do is remove the fender. i believe its about 1 bolt behind the headlight, 3 along the engine bay, and 1 or underneath the car. then, it should be easy adjusting from there.

as far as pricing goes, i believe that is somewhere around 20-30 for each hinge.

Thanks for the input sir.

I was exactly thinking about this i.e. fender coming in the way and the possible paint nicks while getting the hinges off.

Definately more work involved than just common sense LOL.

There's no need to remove the fender, thats just more work. You have to take it off, put it back on and align all your seams????

Use a jack to hold the door, AFTER taping the seams. Have someone hold the door while you unplug wires and remove hinges.
Reverse this for installation. Little adjustments will probably need made to get the door fitting correctly.

If you want to take a look at the parts, get the FSM from phatg20.net.
