I broke the heads on 3 screws and had to drill thru them - was a bit of a pita, but did not take much time. replacements from home depot are cheap.

I would do it by hand with a screw driver that fits really tight...

BTW, I also broke one screwdriver bit when i tried to use my 18v cordless drill

I used a screwdriver that fit correctly, and I put part of the frame in a bench vise so I wouldn't have to hold it. I also used a ratchet rather than a power drill, so I could feel if it was going to slip or break.

Unfortunately, after stripping a couple of the screws out I had to resort to a drill. I sugguest what the others have stated and use a good fit phillips driver and quit a bit of force. I was lucky enough to get the majority of them out this way.

Good luck!

why dont' you use a socket wrench? that works also.
The trick is to TIGHTEN IT FIRST...which breaks it loose. THEN you can loosen it.

+1

Get a dremel, cut it out a slot for a big flat head. Much easier than drilling

Ding, ding, ding: We have a "WINNER". This is what I did to get my screws out and it worked like a charm.

they have some sort of locktite on them. just crank em forward a 1/4 turn before you start to unturn them and they come off easy. also this is in the wrong section of the forum.

the easy way is to use a propane torch (or just a bic lighter even) to heat the screws, and then they'll come right out.

Dang? On your radio? I'm sure that will make it toasty!

Lay down some hot tracks huh?

this is the best way to do it. I fought with my screws for a half hour, then once i tried this method they all came off like a thong on a stripper

I had same situation on my 4th Gen and got 4 out by hand and the other 4 I used a cordless impact screwdriver - after hammering on it for a few seconds they all came out easily (last one broke the bit though - Craftsman tool w/ cheap chinese bits, same ones from my ghetto black&decker set).
