ECU decoding help

hey all, got the SES light on so i retrieved the codes for it. i tried to use the "VBXMaxima ecu decoder" but the series of codes dont match:

1st set of codes: 10 long pulses + 4 short AND 5 short AND 5 short pulses

2nd set: 10 long pulses + 3 short AND 8 short pulses

3rd set: 10 long pulses + 4 short AND 4 short AND 2 short pulses

WTF! VBMAXIMA's decoder allows for only 2 sets: one long and one short.

what the hell am i doing wrong ? thx in advance for your time.

Why would VBMAXIMA decode 5th gen ECU's?
The 5th gen has a different 'coding' system than the 4th gen.

I'm guessing your car is an 02/03?

Here's a good reference thread:

Pay attention to posts # 1 & post # 4 and notice the 'pattern' there.

hey thx for the link. i have 2 related codes P0455 & P0442, EVAP emission control system leak. i shall goto my local dealership and get an OEM replacement gas cap for starters; hopefully that fixes the problem.

the second code is P038: (H02S) heater control circuit high, bank 1 sensor 2. this is the one thats giving me problems. i did the poorman's search here, searched on OBD-Codes.com and still can not find the specific explination for this particular code. also the links in the FAQ's dont work anymore. is this something i should bring to the garage? thx again for your help.

Are you sure it's not P0138?

Also, the stickys and links do work, you just need to modify the link and insert OLD for SHOW in the address line.
