stalling

stalling

I'm going a little nuts on this, i have a 2000 maxima that has a stalling issue. i had it in a few different shops already,and it seems i'm still have the problem. it did throw a code and i was told the rear cat is bad but will not cause the stalling. and this is the only code it is putting out,so my question is. is it the cat or maybe the mass air? thanks for any help with this

My car also stalls in the cold upon start up, After it warms up its great. I usually perform the tune ups and seafoam the engine seasonally, so the engine runs good- But it still stalls. I read one post a while back which stated there was a leak in a gasket and would seal up after the engine was warm.

Ill let you know if I find it.

The bad part is it does it cold or warm... thats what makes it worse

Need more information. What is the code you're getting? Does it stall while it is idling when you start it up or when you begin to depress the accelerator? Are there any puffs of smoke out of the tailpipe upon initial start up or when the acelerator is depressed. Are there any oil leaks on the front, top, bottom or sides of the engine?

There are a number of other questions but this a start.

Under 25 degrees mine runs like garbage unless I warm it up for 5 min. Been goin on for two years. New plugs,maf,filters.I give up.

I've heard from mechanics...the best way to warm up a car is to let it idle for a minute and then slowly start driving it instead of letting it idle for 5 minutes or more.

I wish it would idle for one minute without me feathering the gas. On days when its not freezing outside the car run perfect. No codes...

sounds like an IACV issue. Not uncommon for our cars.....

check your crankshaft position sensor (positive and reference). Pull out the harness and see if yoiu can spot any oil film inside after removing harness. Then you can check the cam one especially the bank 1(rear) You can check FSM for locatrions.
If you spot oil replace them.

Mine has a rough start when cold but once warmed, stalls upon turning key to start the car...sometimes. LOL. No CODES.

Just replaced the coolant temp sensor, from what I understand if it not working (I think it was just a bad connection due to corrosion) it will send the wrong info to the ECU, causing it not to warm car up properly. 25.00 at Courtesy. Best $25.00 I ever spent.

my friends 00 max stalls randomly sometimes but always does it on start up in cold weather...cant figure it out...2 nissan dealerships and multipal sensors...still has the problem..im thinkin IACV any ideas

My 2000 Max was stalling when cold but once it warmed up ran fine.After researching on forum found a discussion thread about Altima's doing the same thing it said that it may be the upper intake manifold gasket that's causing air to leak in.Needless to say replaced the gasket and car idles with no problem.

It's an 5th gen, So do the things you can on your own. I've seen this run through our cars alot. Well,not the 02-03. Your throttle body is a driveby wire, so you run no risk (if you do it right) of screwing up your tb. Clean your tb to begin with, it'll either fix your problem or simply get a job out the way that's going to be needed done anyways. My moneys on tb...

Thats wrong....best way is to wait few more minutes to let the fluids circulate better and do what they are meant to do.....thats why when you first start the car when its freezing out and you hit the gas you hear that sound of fluids moving coming from the engine while your in the car.
Your also killing your tranny and engine by not letting it warm up because of friction,thats why if you look on hear lots of people say thier cars run like crap till fully warmed up, when the fluids are fully circulated. Just wait till the needle on the termostat is on the white line atleast.

Was having the same problem with my 03 GLE stalling (upon starting and in the middle of traffic while driving). Changed the crank- and camshaft position sensors and everything works great now.

Believe it or not, cars cannot "feel" the cold.
The best way to warm up the car is to drive it slowly so that all the components warm up together. Engine, trans, wheel bearings, brakes, exhaust system ect.. They all work together. Your engine fluids, mostly the oil is up to pressure within a second or two. The coolant instantly circulates through the block and your heater core until things warm up.

There real reason people warm up their cars is for their own comfort.

For the record, HEAT is what destroys your engine, not the cold.

Have you ever hear of a motor failing because it was to cold?
Have you ever hear of a motor failing because it overheated?

Ok so its freezing outside lets say 15 degrees you start car put it in drive and take off slowly right away.... thats the best way to fk your tranny up......you notice that noise when changing gears the moment you start the car right,but when you warm it up you don't....Guess why? Even when its warm outside its still good to wait A few min also.
Why do you think so many people wonder why thier tranny slips when its cold out until car warms up fully and it goes away...140000 original and counting!
