Got hit today
In bumper to bumper traffic a guy in an F-150 jammed a small Mazda into me which in turn I hit the lady in front pretty lightly. Guy in truck admitted fault and he got charged, no one else.
The Max held up really nice, small scratches to the bumper, could be worse underneath. The front end has slight damage, the lip was bent up about 4 inches in only one spot, all the lines and creases look good.
Should I get this fixed by his insurance or try and get them to cut me a check, then trade mine in on a 2002, has anyone had to make a similiar call? please help, thanks.

dented my rear bumper.
I called my insurance (just to inform them). I have a $500 deductible
and this damage will barely touch my deductible, so I went after the
Van's owner insurance.
Went to the police and obtained the police report. In the police
report I saw the insurance ID code and I called his insurance directly
and opened a claim.
His insurance wanted a copy of the police report and a copy of an
estimate from a reliable auto body shop.
I mailed the requested info and received a check from them within
a week.
I could've used the money for something else since the damage was not
that bad, but I figured the money was to fix the damage, so I did

Since my ride has now been hit, is it wiser trade in as is and keep the insurance check, or fix then trade or sell.

I went thru this too
I just went thru almost the same identical thing about 2 months ago. I took it to a body shop that I have done buisness with before and told them I want an estimate on 2 BRAND NEW bumpers, paint, and labor. They did and I did the same at the dealership. Funny thing was that the dealership was $23 CHEAPER than the body shop. I sent the quotes in and told them I was going with the body shop. I have a brother in-law that works for a ford body shop and will do everything for 1/3 of the price quoted. The only damage is paint scratches!!
I got hit by a suburban from behind and he cracked my ninja kit in a couple of places. He was in trouble with some other teenage kid already for an accident so he payed me like 700 something to get my rear bumper shipped, installed and painted. funny thing is..the whole ninja kit costs like 800 lol.
installation and paintings a B#%#@@!!!!
