Timing advance

Looking for information on the advantages and disadvantages of advancing timing. For example, how does one decide how many degress? Sorry, I'm not as technical as some of the folks in the forum. I like to ask a lot of questions so I can learn.

Ugh. Only the dealer can do it?

I'm going to call my Dad's mechanic (yeah, it is a long shot but I know he works on a lot of Nissans) see if he has a Consult 2 or knows a Nissan/Infiniti tech who would advance my timing.

Typically any OBDII reader should be able to. I know AutoEnginuity and UpRev can do it.

You sure? On the site, the sensors for Ignition Timing Adjustment are in the Enhanced list, and when you go to Test Onboard System in the program, the selection was not there for me until I added the Nissan interface.

Ya, for some reason I remembered the opposite when I first called looking into it. So no, I'm not sure, and probably not w/o that interface.
