CAI install HELP!

on a 2001.

I can't get the fuse box to fit back. Do you leave the white bottom portion of the fuse box on?

Maybe my hole is in the wrong place? Is the hole centered between the battery tray bolts? or is it closer to one or the other? It clears the battery but that damn fuse box!

Help!

How much you get this PR CAI for? I hear it makes you lose alot of low end but gives you a major increase in the high end?

Did you put the template on correctly? The reinstall is a tight fit, but it does fit.

I had a faxed template and had to resize it. I think its a little off. Any tips Kev? Nice new sig.

So you did get the white bottom of the fuse box cover back on right?

BigDogJonx:
It does not give me any Hp right now cause i cant get it installed. www.Cattman.com has them for $200.

Re: ??

Attached is the template I used. I resized to get the correct spacing between the battery bolt holes (7.25").

Hmmmmm..... does the rest of the stuff fit correctly? Are you done with the install (minus the reinstallation of the fuse box)?

Thanks for the compliment.

Everything else is good. I haven't put the battery back either.

I just cant get the fuse box to fit with the bottom part attached. I really don't want to leave the wires exposed underneath.

You don't happen to have a pic of the hole do you??

Hmmmmmm..... is there a writeup in the How-to thread? Pioneer posted a step-by-step. Now that I think about it, my wires were exposed.

Yep, must have missed that. Pioneer said to discard the white plastic. I hope the wires are ok exposed like that.

Put weather stripping in between so the wires and tube won't get damaged.

Put the weather stripping where?? I haven't re-installed the CAI because winter is coming, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get it to not rub against the hole and make that terrible scratching noise. I figured it out because part of the paint was worn away on the pipe itself. Do you wrap the pipe with the weather stripping?? Just wondering. Thanks Kev!!

Nah, just a big enough piece to cover the area where the wires rub against the tube.

From what I've read a CAI is the best for both. You don't lose as much torque on the low-end as a POP and you get a big increase in horsepower on the high-end with a better sounding growl(no whistle ).

The theory of how it works seems to support this.

Dixit,

If I were you I would get a Cattman Y-pipe($tealin sucks *****) and then a PR CAI, especially if your worried about the waranty.

thanks all!

It's in, finally!...but I have a little squeaking when I accelerate from a slow speed. I think it is were the hole and pipe meet. Well off to add more weather stripping.

Also as noted in another thread, my filter touches the fender cover you remove to get the filter in.

Overall I wish it fit a little better but it sure is tight where the battery and fuse box meet.

my piping doesn't rub by the hole because they give you that long piece of black rubber to line the hole with and w/ the black plastic, its a perfect fit

The piping will rub the plastic piece which will produce funny noises when accelerating from a stop. I wasn't thinking metal to metal.

My Filter rests on the plastic fender lineing. Hey It Don't want to cut that thing out. Rains a lot here, Don't want to get water and dirt in that thing. Mine does make noise at low RPMs.

Kevin, thanks for pointing the Post out. That's why its there. To help Folks out. Brian from Cattman told me he was gonna start putting that thread with his CAI's document when he ships em. Not sure of that though.

Ohhh that sounds like fun, I think i might have to come up for that. I have to ask off first. So it will be on the Nov 9 or so. I will give brian a call this weekend.

Hey I am pretty sure I am going to state next year, so that will be pretty cool. Definately have to hang out, and get a good rematch going again.

damaged filter?

Have you checked your filter where it rests? I bought my CAI used and the filter has a hole in it (metal wire worn off) where it must have rubbed. Looks like I'll have to get a new filter. I put a ton of weatherstrip on it for now.

I eliminated the noise at low RPM's by putting weather striping on the pipe where it meets the battery and fuse box.

I still wish it did not touch the fender

BTW, nice writeup, without your page I would still be trying to fit the white part of the fuse box on top of the pipe.

Re: damaged filter?

Oh, I have cleaned it a few times. Its the rubber that makes contact with the plastic first so I'm not worried about it damaging the filter. But the noise it makes is annoying. It sounds like the front of my car is streching or falling apart.

You guys pretty much answered all the questions... but here is my experience with the Cattman CAI:
Very tight fit.
Fuse box will not fit back with the white bottom piece on. I used weather stripping and flex tubing to protect the wires.
It makes a funny rubbing noise when starting from a full stop or changing directions. It whistles at partial throttle.
But well worth it!

Does anyone know where to put the AEM by pass valve on CAI?? Before the MAF or after the MAF?

Thanks

After it, meaning right before the cone filter. Not on the small pipe that is going to the engine. Got it?

Cause you dont want it before the MAF cause then if water ever did in there there, you would get it all over the MAF sensor.

Since the Cattman CAI pretty much the same as the PR one, does the PR one give the same problems?

cattman sells the PRCAI. They buy the metal parts from PR and sell them. They include their own rubber sleeves.
