i used to have a chevy pick up and once i got my 03 6spd, i was obsessed with seeing that nice 27 -30 mpg on the highway on my display. sooo nice.

but i've been very happy with my city driving of about 22mpg ( meanign sitting on the interstate going 5 -10mph for 30 min) I am one of those slow mo joes who, in bumper to bumper traffic ,DOESNT quickly accellerate. i slooowwwlly inch up throught traffic since we are all gonna get there at the same time... i get a honk once in a while, but i think it really helps my mpg.

just a suggestion if u are in gobs of traffic

A little O/T, but you are a real jerk. People like you who THINK they know what's good for everyone else and forcing other people to get stuck behind you is lame. Yes. Everyone is getting somewhere at about the same time, EXCEPT for the fact that your lolly-gagging is felt for miles behind you. Think about that, how traffic that can't even see you pays the price for your arrogance.

I bet I get better MPG's than you do, same motor but an A/T and I do my best to go with the flow. You are not saving any gas by being rude to other people.

I don't care what's nice to say or isn't. Someone getting on here and gloating about how they think they are allowed to impede other people's travel on the open road has it coming to 'em.

What I said is the nothing compared to what others stuck behind this guy say every day. I'm sure of that.

BTW, he was not contributing and neither are you.

What am I missing here? baylormax02 said he does this in bumper to bumper traffic or as some people call grid lock. How is he slowing down anyone behind him? Everyone is going nowhere, he only said he doesn't jump on the gas and then have to jump on the brakes or rear end the car stopped in front of you, I think it only makes sense.

you're chastising this guy for being rude to other people, then you turn around and attack him by calling him a jerk and many other things? i suppose you think that's consistent? and the "other people do it, so it's ok for me to do it" mindset doesn't work too well beyond the 5th grade BTW.. your statement was completely off-topic, contradictory, and rude for no reason.. you need to keep those types of comments to yourself

Thank you sir, you just gave a more concise version of what i was trying to relay. I laugh at those ppl that floor it just to go 10 feet and come to a complete hault. And if i made it sound like i hold up a huge line of traffic, i really don't. i probably help THEM with their MPG by staying at a constant 5 mph coast instead of jerkin their cars around going 0-10mph every few sec.

and why would this thing be locked down? too much name calling? we can handle it i hope....

Not my fault i got role models like you...Im sure you love when people discuss the advantages and disadvantages of hard acceleration during gridlock. And by discussions I mean calling each other jerks and such.

If you are refering to me, i wasn't trying to sound sarcastic at all. I appreciated how this guy backed me up.

It's just silly to me seeing ppl jump on the gas whenever there is a small break in traffic. whata a maroon!

very helpful, and pretty odd actually. driving behind those ppl going for 50mpg would be infuriating !! go UNDER the speed limit for better gas mileage.... i'd rather pay some more $$ for gas

reducing the weight is overlooked by lots of ppl though...

I can't break 20 MPG in my 03' SE automatic whether it's regular hwy or city driving. It's usually around 18 MPG. The only time I can get over 20 MPG is on long trips driving over 80 MPH.

I just got new tires and alignment, the oil changes are maintained, and I live in Santa Monica where the temperature rarely varies out of 60*-80* range. I have almost 90k on the car, so I'm thinking about changing the O2 sensor and the spark plugs. Any advice?

I can get about 21.9 mpg out of my 02 GLE. I put v-power in it and i do have a lead foot here and there and i still think thats pretty good for my driving style. I can probably get 340-360 out of a tank.

You are saying you can get 640 miles on a 16 gallon fill up. What speed do you drive?

normal, speed limit abiding driving gets me about 27 mpg around town in my 2000 auto. However, thanks to my lead foot, I rarely get that, more like 22 mpg

No you don't. No way a car that is EPA rated at 17/26 gets the kind of mileage you are claiming.

I don't know what cities you guys drive in to get 25 mpg... on the highway I get about 350 miles to the tank, which equals about 25 mpg.. but that's because I speed and race occasionally. If I drove 60mph, I would get at least 400 miles to the tank

civics boast 35 mpg, and i'm sure that's with conservative highway driving

Must be one of the very limited SE-H. Those hybrids are no jokes. I've heard you can get up to 50mpg highway if you put on the Prius wheels. True story 100% no joke

I'm getting just over 20 mpg (80% city/20% freeway) for my last several tanks, going by the actual math, not the trip computer. I drove down to Austin and back, got around 25 mpg (trip computer showed 29 mpg...ha!)keeping my speeds mostly in the low 70 mph range but there is a lot of up and down between here and Austin. Going out to Kentucky next month, much flatter most of the way, but not expecting much more than 26-27 mph average.

I've never posted in these mpg threads, but I will say that acceleration is the key to mileage. If I take it SLLLOOOOWW from a stop instead of normal, and go 50 on rural roads instead of 60, I get 2.5mpg more. Actually, the rpm's never get over 2K. Same driving, nothing different. Only change is the acceleration method (and cruising speed). Try it, it saves a LOT. However, I have never gotten over 30mpg. Usually 25-27mpg in rural driving, no stop-n-go city driving. I wont always do it this way, but I've tried it for the last 3weeks and it is a def change for the better mileage.

Now after driving the car for a few months we've noticed some pretty poor gas mileage ratings. From the last two fill ups we're avg between 12-14 mpg! (calculated from the amount of miles driven from the trip computer vs the actual gallons used to fill up the tank) This is well below the Maxima's revised lower city rating of 17 mpg. I really don't have any explanation as to why it's so low and I'm concerned there might be something wrong with the engine. Although there isn't any obvious signs as to what might be causing this mileage drop.

I will note that:
- Our mileage has been almost all city driving vs hwy (90% city, 10% hwy)
- Have always used premium grade branded gas during fill ups
- Tire pressure was checked, no check engine lights or anything obvious is wrong with the car,
- Engine and transmission running smooth, no rough idle
- Outside temps have been in 40-50's outside when driving, but nothing super cold temps
- Car has been driving lightly, I don't floor it or drive aggressively.
- The carputer says that we're averaging 17.3 mpg which is way off from what our actual mileage has been

It's really interesting how varied people's mileage ratings are here and why ours is just plain lousy

Do you have a teenage son that drives it? Cause i know when i drive my car it gets 19mpg, compared to the first week my dad had it when it got 27 mpg
