Boat?
http://www.thecarconnection.com/Vehi...180.A4347.html
3218 pounds with an automatic, 3224 pounds with a manual
That is less than 100 pounds more than the 3132 listed curb weight of a 2007 Corvette Z06.
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...1&Profile=1024
I'd hardly call a 5-5.5 gen Maxima a boat, at least when talking weight.
My 5.5 gen isn't an oil burner so obviously I'll take the extra 33 hp it comes with vs a 5th gen.

I am mainly calling it a boat because of stock handling and it's HORRIBLE turning radius, I know it does not weigh that much...
Weight alone does not make a car a boat, my wife’s friggin company Charger handles better than my Maxima stock for stock and turns much tighter.... Hell, my fathers Lincoln Mark LT can out turn my Maxima.
I call my Max The "freight ship".

High 15s vs high 14s with an automatic
Low 15s vs mid 14s with a manual
.75 to 1 full second in the quartermile is a pretty noticable difference.
But either is a lot faster than my old V6 626.

You have to admit, it is pretty light car for its size.
Compared to my 626, the turning radius of my Maxima is horrible, but with regards to handling, the Maxima is a lot better, despite Mazda's "zoom-zoom" claims.
My other brother has a Mercury Mountaineer and it turns tighter than my Maxima.

True, but bone stock...http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...34&postcount=1

As for the weight on the Maxima... It's easy to keep the weight down when Nissan used almost no sound deadening...
I have seriously thought about pulling my entire interior and laying down a few layers of it because I can't stand the interior noise anymore... But then I realize I might as well as trade it in for a different car.
I notice it a lot more when I spend time in other peoples cars... I spent the week in my brother in-laws S-Type Jag over New Years... I LOVED how quite it was inside.

The 01 made it to edmunds most wanted list and they awarded it the best sport sedan under $30K. I dont see any mention for the 02-03 of winning something similar!

FWD and "best" sport sedan dont go hand in hand. I dont know where you got the luxury term from.
Drive any 2000 - 2003 maxima and the road and wind noise are not even close to what luxury cars exhibit in terms of true luxury ride quality!

That's my mothers ride, and yes it certainly does turn tighter.

1. I get a newer car
2. 33 hp more
3. Factory HIDs
In fact, the '01 I looked at was a GLE with leather and cost the same as my '02. The '01 did have less miles though but not enough to make it worth getting compared to the '02 I ended up buying. If I hadn't been able to find an '02-03 to my liking, I would have bought either an '01 Maxima or an '03-04 V6 Accord.
BTW, since you mentioned it, one of my brothers had an '87 626 GT turbo. Really nice little sleeper. High 15s for a small 4 door car was pretty quick in the late 80s. He put 215,000 miles on the original engine, transmission and turbo. Way more reliable (and faster) than the '99 V6 626 I had.

Meantime, we'll have to make do with the upgrades and improvements Nissan has made to the 2002 model, and they are substantial. Above and beyond the formidable V-6/six-speed drivetrain that should make the Maxima among the fastest vehicles in its class, Nissan has shape-shifted the front end of the car and the result is much more appealing. An atmosphere-gulping, wide-mouthed grille and new-for-'02 headlight assemblies featuring High Intensity Discharge (HID) Xenon bulbs, which sear the night with ultra-blue-tinted light. Visibility with HID lights is much improved and Nissan deserves praise for adding these to the Maxima's list of standards. There are also new clear/translucent taillight housings out back, in keeping with what's trendy, but the Modern Art jumble of ovoids and planes remains. This last aspect - the Maxima's less than stunning rear end - is the only lingering stylistic question mark floating above what is otherwise a very handsome, no-nonsense-looking sport sedan.

Is the price difference really that much? Closer to a couple grand around here. For me it was worth it because:
1. I get a newer car
2. 33 hp more
3. Factory HIDs

i didnt get that part either, but dont nissan kinda focus more so on sportiness rather than luxury?, look at just about all the comersials, i.e. 5th gen, when dude watches the sunset then floors the gas till the sunrises....... (nothing to do with luxury)..... best turning car to me it the 03 or 04 toyota camry

So tell me, don't you think a 255 hp 01 would have made an even bigger impression?

The maxima is marketed as a sporty family car... its not a true sport sedan!
IF the maxima is a sport sedan... hmm... lets see now... RWD bmw's... dang we just invented a new car category tonight!

'02-03s are going for $11,000 to 12,500 for low mileage in the Dallas area. I paid $8000 for my '02 since the miles are a little high (although it is a very early 06/01 build so it really isn't that bad) and it has some very minor hail damage. I have a friend who owns a body shop and the PDR guy he uses can do my whole car for around $500 (hail and door dings), instead of the $1000+ it would cost anyone else. I guess it pays to have referred about $100,000 in business to this body shop.

im not talking price, im talking about a "sport sedan" VS a luxury sedan... two major different class, you can also find porsche, mercedes, lexus, and bmw's for that, (which is in that class) for those price... when you talk nissan, comparisons will be honda, toyota, mazda, and cars like that

absolutely! and the result was awards on the 01 motor. I guess by 02 with honda already announcing their new v6 for 03 bumped up to 246... the HP wars were already on(hmm... thinking back when did they ever stop) I keep track of hondas since we have a few in the family... dont know anything about toyotas though.

True.
Toyota only recently has bumped up their v6 hp on the camry. I think with the latest iteration. Its supposed to be good... but its still a camry
most common answer - they were still trying to get over all the sludge problems !!

I look at price and what the car is offering. They are both similar in price (used), both are four-door family sedans aimed at luxury and performance.
The Jag is all around a better car; handles nice (better than the Max), the 3.0 V6 in it is strong, nicer interior fit & finish, way better ride quality.
The Jag is "classified" as a luxury car, but it does "sport" just as well, if not better than the Max.
Hell, throw in a few more grand and pick up an S-Type R... It will blow the doors off of any Max in any setting and it will do it with class.

Wonder why the used Jags are so cheap...
And edmunds says a 02-03 max should be anywhere from 10-12,002, not 14,500-16,000. My 02 SE was 10,500 with 68k miles so that seems to be just about right.
