connector on rearview mirror

Well, I was walking to my car and I notice that on the back of my rear view mirror there seems to be some sort of connector that’s visible. Does anyone know what this is for? Am I the only one with it! No, I don’t have the rear view mirror with the compass it’s an ’02 GLE. It actually looks like the same connectors that are underneath the seats.

it should be the power connector for auto-dim rear view mirror.

what do you mean it's not hooked up to anything?

do you mean the small hole at the back of the mirror? that's the auto-dim sensor.

O.k. So your saying there is a loose "un-connected" connector hanging from your rearview mirror?

next to the sensor there is a connector, but the connector is built into the back of the mirror. Did you look at the back of your mirror?

Yes, I did. that connector is how the power go into your mirror, but I think not all of the pins are used.

because its the same connector used for cars with the compass/temp built into the mirror. The mirror isn't made by Nissan necessarily - probably the same as auto-dim (compass/temp) mirrors for other cars as well.

in any case, the connector is to provide power for the auto-dim.

question answered, thread done. no need to continue talking about "why" nissan put it there.
