Hello Maxima Enthususiasts!
I bought a 2000 Maxima just 2 days ago and I am loving it more than I have for any other car I've owned in the past. I am PUZZLED because I can't find anywhere on the vehicle which indicates whether its an SE, GXE or GLE !!! Even the dealer said " I dunno, it's just a maxima". DUH.
Well it doesn't have the rear spoiler, so I assume it's not the SE. It does have the cd/cassete radio, power seats and sunroof, the 16" 215's. My question: Is there a way I can tell from the VIN # which submodel it is?? I'm sure there has to be.
IF there are any other indicators which model it is, let me know so I can find out.

No badge? That's weird.
Did you get to keep the sticker on the window when you bought it?

You can tell by looking at the right side of the trunk lid. If it has an "SE" or "GLE" on it, then that's what it is. If nothing, then it is a "GXE".

Nope. No badge on that car. The window sticker just listed as a 2000 Maxima. I bought it used of course, and nothing on any paperwork said which submodel

You bought a car from a dealer and he did not know what type of
Maxima he was selling ?

BTW, according to your description, you own a 2000 Maxima GXE with
the Convenience package.

Sounds like a GXE.

But, I'd simply have the dealer look up the VIN number on the system.
They'll easily be able to tell you the actual model.

no spoiler and foglights, you have a GXE. BTW the difference in price of used GXE and GLE may reach $5K. So if that dealer of yours ripped you off, immed. take your car back. Congrats on the purchase.

Yea if you don't have foglights then its a GXE. If your 16" wheels don't have 5 spokes, then it's a GXE. Congrats on the purchase, and start modding

all GLE's come with leather and the Bose system and fogs, all SE's come with the rear spoiler and black tail lights. and the wheels are different, five spoke 16's are standard SE and GLE, the optional SE wheels are the 17's. USUALLY if it has no badge its a GXE. Congrats on the purchase of yur new ride!

I'm convinced now it's the GXE. But with all the cool mods available for it that I've been seeing on the net, I can't wait to get started.
