getting a good condition used tranny will be your best choice.
instead of that scoop, I think you can try lips and oem spolier, just like everybody else does.

okay so im getting a swap with a new tranny, should be done by Tuesday. the final cost was $2300 with a year warranty. did i get ripped off? i am in ny so things do cost a bit more...

what are other problems i can expect? should i get new spark plugs as well?

That's not a horrible price I guess, at least you'll have a working car again! I'd save the spark plugs for another time. It seems to be a fairly simple DIY job, not worth paying a shop to do it.

Unless the shop specializes in import transmissions, you may end up with problems again. The one that did my Accord's transmission only replaced the clutch packs, never touched anything else inside. Still slipped when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. I fought with them for quite a while before they got a new rebuilder and manager who finally fixed it right. Look at all the problems D'Nene (SexyLeo) has had with her rebuild.

The best bet with imports is a low mileage used transmission. Cheaper than a rebuild too.

Okay so they said the problem was the "trans axle." What is that and what could have caused it to go?, so it wont happen again?

Trans axle is your transmission. If they go into it, they should know what went wrong and be able to tell you. If they can't, then they aren't qualified to rebuild it.
