HID headlight Question

i just have a quick question, i made a thread about it because i kinda need a quick answer. basically my car got hit and my hid headlight got smashed(just the driver side) , so only that one got replaced. and now i got one new one and one old one.and i hate the way it looks so i found a good deal on a headlight but it isnt the HID one. so my question is could i use the OEM HID black box and put it on the non HID headlight.sorry if i wasnt too clear. thanks and my car is the 02 maxima SE

Just to clarify: originally you had 2 HID headlights. Now you have 2 HID headlights but they are different somehow. How are they different? If it's the light output, it could be because your bulbs are old. HID bulbs lose intensity in a fairly linear fashion over time.

common knowledge for anyone that knows HIDs...they are called ballasts. i wouldnt trust a random ebay seller that doesnt appear to know anything about HIDs.

could you take a picture of this supposed non HID headlight, I don't understand how a 5.5 gen headlight could not be HID. If that means you bought a headlight but it didn't have the ballasts and bulbs then fine, but that doesn't make the headlight a non-HID headlight

it will be about 600 for one OEM nissan headlight, thats a lil steep but probably the best way to go so i probably will just buy a new one

so back to my question, could i simply jus put my ballast in with no problems? and for some reason those dont look like OEM because if you look at the black tabs closely, they are different then oem headlights

yea you could just install your old ballasts on there.

but honestly go take a look at them, the tabs look different cause they look broken.

like i said....

and why would you pay $50 for housing when you are gonna spend the price of the full assembly on the ballasts and bulbs?

if it bothers him that bad, he need to buy a whole headlight assembly.

So the only problem is that one is dirty?

You could try opening the dirty headlight and use the plasticX on the inside. Here are directions on how to open the headlight: http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/angel_eyes.html

Otherwise, get a new one. I wouldn't mess around with trying to swap your HID stuff into a non HID headlight when you've already got one that works. (especially because they look stolen - check out the first one, those could be pry marks along the top edge)

If the old one is nonresponsive the the plasticX, get some 1000 grit or 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper and wetsand out your imperfections but be gentle and not to aggressive! Then come back and polish the lense with plasticX and a diegrinder equipped w/buffing wheel or use a drill!
No, you can't attach the HID ballast to the halogen lense! If you don't like the way the polishing comes out. You can always buy the 2000-01 headlight and then install HID kits in them!
