strange "whine"
strange "whine"
ok so i get this weird whining noise kinda, when i am in park an hit the gas pedal about half a second after i touch the pedal theres this quik whine from under the hood and as soon as the car idles back down it does it once more, any ideas?
2. Start Car
3. If no one is around rev the car with your hand assuming its a 01 or 00 or have some one rev the car while its runing
4. Listen and look at were sound is coming from
5. Did you try this at all before starting this thread?
Theres a couple places it can be coming from:
the alternator
power steering pump
ac compressor
vaccum line leak
bad belts
belt tensioner
a dirty throttle body-disassemble intake piping and look at butterfly valve then clean it with a wet rag
I posted this same Q; in the 6th gen forum. What your problem is your timing chain. In my case Nissan had to replace a sensor and some other part. Trust me it's your timing chain. I can look for my receipt and tell you exactly what it is.
well lets see, ive opened the hood and listened i cant quite pinpoint the sound but its near the front of the engine on the pass side, my oil was changed about 1700 miles ago, and i hope to god its not my timing....thats quite costly
the whine has been there since i bought the car just didnt really notice it all that much considering i got a 1000 watt amp in the trunk....and it doesnt change when i change my oil, ive used three different filters since i started hearing it...
Try turning the wheel and see if it makes the sound change for a second then go back...if so i have the same problem and it very well could be the idler pulley being that the rpm bounces a bit when i turn the wheel.
please keep your advice to the 6th gen forum
Well since you posted that you have a 1000 amp im gonna say that its your alternator dieing i've heard this on cars with sound system without really good electrical system for the sound system its just a tiny whine at the start do to the fact that when your car starts the alternator is under load u might look into getting a replacement one ready
Let me guess. It makes a soft, quick "chirp" when you lightly rev past 900 rpm and again when it goes back down under 900 rpm? My car does the same thing, someone said it had to do with the motor mounts. 4 months later, no change in the sound, frequency or loudness so I am not going to worry about it.

A continuous high pitched "whine" as someone mentioned above can be a precurser to the alternator packing it in. The other thing that can generate a "whine" is an over-tensioned serpentine accessory drive belt, particularly with the Maxi because it is adjustable.......not a spring loaded tensioner. I also have the "chirp" on accel and decel from/to idle, but I don't really know how long I've had it. Doesn't seem to be from the accessory drive end of the engine......I think it may be just the IACV.
Well, its not affecting y performane or anything like that so i not to concerned with it, i was just curious if anyone knew what it was, obviously its something with a maxi, theres numerous people that got the same issue

I would like to fix it before I sell the car, but no idea what to fix!
Please, help!
I have same problem with my Maxima 2000 (78K) and now with Infiniti I35 2002 (47K), the only difference that on Maxima it is much louder and on Inf it is just started and it is not loud yet.
