MMI installed

so i got a set of MMI from Taz at racingline. yes they are made for the 6th gen but i said what the hell and gave them a shot. Taz said the front insert will fit, but he wasnt sure about the rear. so i became the test bed.
I have a 6 speed so i can only say how it is for the 6 speeders out there. I opted for these because i didnt want to go thru the hassle of pressing/chiseling out the old rubbers, so MMI's would do. I got a set of street inserts which are well made and tough.

Its easiest to install if you have access to a lift, but it can be done at home if you put your car on jackstand and use the jack to maneuver the center cross beam/motor. i have access to a lift so i used a jackstand on the motor.

Taking the center beam out completely makes the job quite easy as the mounts are connected to the beam itself. the bolts have 17mm heads on them. Center beam is held on by 17mm bolts as well. 4 on the beam 3 for each mount.

Once the mounts are removed the front MMI slips in easily. I opted to mount it on the side with the protruding center bore/hole, which would be the engine side not the transmission side.

Now for the rear. The hole on the rear is centered and the void is smaller than the front. The front has an off center hole and a larger void. I will post pics as well. I used a lot of lube and had to use a screwdriver to pry/pull the insert thru the tight void. Same as the front, i put it on the protruding side. It is quite snug so i know for a fact that the rear wont be moving.

Reinstall in reverse order. Mounts to Engine, center beam to mounts, center beam to subframe. Easiest way is to mount all the bolts by hand than tighten all down. now go for a ride!

If anyone is going to do this, i recommend a harder compound for the front which Taz may be selling for the 5th gen. Which in turn i need to do
All in all not a bad install. its a great alternative to getting ES bushings. here a link to the pics.

When i first installed the front i had put it on the transmission side, then decided it would best fit if the center hole of the MMI were to sit/center of the protruding bore of the engine mount. pics are here

Impressions: Definitely feels great. Less engine movement and great when heel-toeing.

you will feel slight vibration at a stop but other than that its pretty stiff. i recommend gettin the race insert because its stiffer.
