Two Problems with engine related or not? any other suggestions?
Hey guys well i'll keep this short but detailed my car has been having major problems with the engine...i have aroun 115,000 miles on it. First off my starter is going out soon...i think...I've already changed the starter once and its been close to a year and it's acting up again. So i just hit the thing a little and bingo it works....OK that 's one problem but i've also notice, not in park when i rev the engine to lets say anything above 1.5 rpm the on the way back down it goes so low the engine stalls. I can rev over 2k so the MAF test has already been done. its just when i release the gas, it drops so low it stalls and it happens all the time. also once i left it in park and the engine slowly stalls. no codes so far....any ideas? I've also notice my doors lights flicker a little and get slightly dim on and off...could this be connected some how? thanks for any help.
if someone out there really helps me solve this thing all the way through. i'll send them a little gift in the form of LED door lights. it's horrible when i go out and the car doesn't start... thanks!

i was reading online that i can check this by starting the car and disconnecting the battery. then turning on something like the headlights...and if the car dies its the alternator.. is this correct? i've never dealt with alternators before...
I believe you maybe have a sensor problem Cams or crank! It's on it's way to failing! If you suspect your altenator get a volt-ohm-meter and measure/monitor your voltage without a load and then with a full load (flashers, bright lights, blower, brake lights etc....) See where your voltage is at, hopefully its over 13.0 volts!
on the alternator. Did you go with a OEM starter, or did you go with those remanufactured starters from AutoZone etc? If so maybe that isnt helping the problem .
Try checking it with a multimeter or take it in to a parts store with the tester
Also a friend of mine (my car mentor) gave me this info to test out your alternator.
the easiest way to test is turn on the car, test the voltage at the battery, then test it with the car off it should be 12-12.9 with the car off, 14-16 with it on .
Hope that helps wayne.

humm yeah i do hear a slight whine near my alternator not sure if it was belts or that... i'll take it some place and test the alternator out. 1st step i guess.
thanks everyone!

it's not the alternator... it read 12v when the care isn't started like 14v with lights on and stepping on the gas a little....i've been reading around and maybe its the MAF??
as of now the car still stalls after i gas it over 1500 rpm, it just drop all the way down to 0.
as for the starting, it has to be the starter. i hit the thing a few times and it's fine..
going to try and replace it tomorrow. but the reving thing still is a major problem. any other ideas?
