Need help replacing/repairing broken HID headlight lens on 03 Max

Some fu**er hit me on the passenger side of my 03 Max and broke the right side headlight. The only damage appears to be on outer lens. The crack is large enough that I won't be able to seal it properly and make it air tight.

Ignore all the nasty stuff on the car... I took the picture after it had just rained.

I called the dealer to find out if they sell just the headlight enclosure and he quoted $575 for the freaking enclosure... insane! The whole unit costs $700 if I wanted the bulbs with it.

I was just wondering if it would possible to buy just the outer lens? I can't find them anywhere.

I read up on one of the "how to's" on removing the outer lens. Now only thing I need to find is replacement lens (if they're sold seperately)... I am trying to fix this without buying an OEM or used headlight off ebay/car-parts.com.

I'd appreciate some advice.

Thanks.

Well, your first step would be getting the guy who hit you to pay for it. You haven't stated anything about that though. Was it a hit'n'run?

actually may be cheaper just to buy the whole headlight assembly from ebay or a auto recycler. it'll definately be a hell of a lot cheaper than 700.

His insurance accepted liability, but I am only getting about 70% compensation... there are other damages that occured internally to suspension, but it is hard to prove it happened after the accident. That's why I am trying to salvage this headlight so I can come up with some cash for other repairs.

I bought one on ebay, but I think its a stolen headlight because all the tabs are broken and it has a small crack on the lens too. I'll be sending it back.

I also tried car-parts.com, but most of the headlights there have some sort of damages on them...

Thanks! I will look into this. $400 is reasonable for a brand new unit. Definitely beats paying $700 to the stealer.

I also found this one on ebay:

Also, do you have a write-up on how to remove the actual headlight itself on 03 max? I removed the top two bolts off, but there is something else holding it back.

I had that Data Dots TSB done few years ago by the dealer. I don't know if that process involved additional reinforcement of the headlight assembly. Can someone point me what other bolts need to be removed? Thanks!

There may be that anti theft bracket installed, it's under the light behind the bumper fascia!

does that data dots thing mean that the headlight has an anti-theft bracket on it? my headlights have those stickers on them too

"data dots" is a number on the unit for tracking purposes and different from the antitheft brackets.

could also have been in an accident.

i'd check the local yellowpages call some auto recyclers .. minimize the amount you pay and you can find some good condition oem units.

Assuming that I don't have antitheft brackets, do you know if there are any other bolts, other than the top two? Thanks.

CORRECTION: I just checked the factory service manual and it seems there's only two tabs and screws.

My 03 max doesn't have bolts like the below maxima . There are like these flat heads instead of bolts.Am i suppose to use a special tool to take them off . They are rusted and don't look like reg bolts

I would just yank the headlight out, makes everything easier to see......two bolts at the top a tab on the inner side...once you get the bolts off , just pull
